Thanks for the timeline, very helpful!

Curious about why unlock request with different contact info? Would request with purchaser's info be rejected?
[UPDATE] Never mind I found the answer - it's because AT&T unlock request is made as "Not a current AT&T customer". Got it.
Do I need "another" existing ATT number in order to request unlock right after paid in full? I checked ATT website and it says must stay 60 days.

Is the offer still available in Walmart? I see it's out of stock everywhere for AT&T.
Out of stock online since it began for non-Walmart + members. I have been checking everyday for any 256GB phone. When it was released to the public, they only had the 1TB and 2TB models in blue and orange. This was the Pro Max model. Maybe they didn't get enough stock? If I can't do this deal, I will go to Costco.

How long did it take to receive $300 GC? I purchased ATT version about an hour ago (in-store), but no GC yet. For even 1, I received the GC in 10 minutes.

Edit: Received the card now, took about 2-hours after payment to receive the GC.

I went to store today. They told it's an online only product now and not available in store anymore.

Couldn't find a phone in my area, so I did not go through with the process. My best guess is you can give any name/number/email - after all, you're requesting unlock as a non-AT&T customer.

Finished a 2 year contract with Xfinity. Never again. I'd rather go with a prepaid plan than be locked in

Question - how soon can I pay off the phone and cancel my account? Like, can I do that the very next day? If so, will the carrier bill me prorated for those 2-3 days plus the activation fee? Carrier that I go with doesn't matter, I just want to keep my cost lowest. Anyone has an idea about the final settlement bill amount in such an immediate cancellation case (charges apart from the actual phone price)? Will there be any early termination penalty charges, if so how much? Does ATT vs Verizon vs TMobile make any difference in such case - in terms of early termination policies, charges, activation fees, delay in unlocking the device, etc.

This background may help to understand the reason behind my question - I use my employer provided phone number, and they pay the phone bill. I can't port that number as it doesn't belong to me, neither do I need a new connection apart from the said phone number. I just need a new iPhone as mine is iPhone 11 and is now pretty old, so I will appreciate the $300 Walmart GC as that will effectively bring down the device price from $1200 to $900. But it won't be of much use, or worth the hassle, if anyway I end up paying a significant amount to the carrier. I like the silver iphone pro max, but all my local Walmart branches are carrying Blue and Orange. I can do the compromise on color if I really save atleast $200, (for example, if I pay activation fee of $40, and $60 prorated carrier bill post immediate contract termination, then my effective gain is $300 -$40 - $60 = $200)

I am not sure if its worth having the phone on EIP for 24 months (and you cannot sell or unlock) for a $300 e gift card. Maybe just better to buy a bunch of Apple gift cards and get 15% off an unlocked phone directly from Apple.
Please explain how can one get 15% off for a bunch of apple gift cards? If you are referring to Amazon or target gift card offers then that is only one per customer - so max you will gain is $15 for one $100 apple gift card. How do you stack that offer to $1200 worth apple gift card for a pro max?

Amazon is limited to one. Best Buy and Target allowed multiples.

The Walmart 3rd party distributors are keeping these on hold for their friends.
In the Chicagoland area, good luck getting one even when they have one.
