I was able to get a Red Pocket e-SIM number for $7.78 and successfully ported it in to Metro. Plus Metro total of $165.24. All in with eSIM port-in and Metro is $173.02. Now we wait for it to unlock lol

I got this promotion 2 days ago, I had to call 5 different stores around my area, all them were charging $400 - $500 price out of the door. Only on one I was able to get $300. They asked me for my ID and I had to verify myself with a selfie scanner, just like the website. FYI

A year unlock is a long time. The use case that works for me is to treat this as a spare phone that comes online in a year. Someone in my family will always break their phone at an inopportune time, or benefit from an upgrade to a 16e, which is still newer than most of our phones.
I feel an iPhone 16e just isn't a worthwhile upgrade for normal consumers. Even coming from a 5yo iPhone 12, it would feel like a borderline downgrade. Cheaper materials, no MagSafe, 7.5W max Qi1 charging, no mmWave 5G, one camera, and the same exact screen.

The phone makes sense for businesses who want the cheapest new iPhones in bulk. But personally I wouldn't upgrade to the 16e for free. I have too many MagSafe accessories, and the fact that even I'd have to spend money on a new case makes it feel like a net loss.

A used or refurbished 15 Pro would be a much better value, or even a 13 Pro would be better with its 120Hz ProMotion display. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about an unlock period.

Just pulled the trigger. It's a long investment but I think the tradeoff price-wise is probably worth it.
Be sure you guys confirm the price is $99+55 after you start the checkout. If it's not the right amount, then the number you're using probably doesn't qualify for the promotion, even if they allow you to port it.

Good deal if you can switch to $25/mo plan on the 2nd month and use it with that. Can you?
You can do that by transferring the number to a different phone or cancel the service first. I have done that b4

It'll pay off. It is not a gamble like some say here.
Also having this like a 2nd device, or a camera, streaming thing. Its kinda nice. I'll trade-in later.

Materials aren't cheaper, but I agree I don't know why they felt the need to remove magsafe.

Metro is still part of TMo

Boost Mobile is part of Dish and they mainly resell ATT network -- Dish was trying to get a 4th carrier going with their own network but failed so now they made a deal with ATT

I would argue this is a worthwhile upgrade over a standard iPhone 12. You get to move to USB-C charging you get almost double the battery life of a used iPhone 12 at 85% capacity. You get one of the newer chips along with 8 GB of RAM(double the iPhone 12 ram)If you're a heavy MagSafe user then I understand. Me, myself I have used MagSafe, maybe five times in my life. I use a 16 Pro Max and I only charge via cord. I would also say that after selling your used 12 on the open market you would probably be pretty close to break even on this and the 16e is clearly a superior device. If you have the money and don't care, I would definitely buy something better but in my case, my kids using iPhones are going to upgrade from a 2 year old 64gb 12 to a 16e for the ram, gaming, and overall speed updates of the newest chipset.

I don't see a trade in value for this on the apple website, when you buy a new phone or otherwise. The gen3 SE is worthless for trade in ($80). So I am really wondering what kinda value this will bring and when....and I am only looking at Apple trade in because this is locked to metro for one year, so you can't really sell it elsewhere for much.

Get a free helium mobile and then transfer. I didn't buy but checked the transfer and it worked and went through checkout page.

Apple's not accepting them yet for trade in -- maybe some time next year
