Great deal, thanks. I hadn't used the PayPal pay-in-4 offer yet so this ended up being an A+ deal using pay--in-4.

I ordered the RZ30 a week ago from another site for $799. I couldn't resist today's opportunity to save a net $200 so I did it right with Pay-in-4 and will return the first order. Fortunately, no return shipping nor restocking fee for the first order. Phew!

FYI Dirac has a bit of learning curve.

The calibration process causes a lot of confusion not to mention all the misinformation.

This is thee best process to follow in my experience.

Any concerns with Onkyo's troubled history with performance? Any credit card I. CAn use to get more warranty?

I currently have a a set of Paradigm monitor 9 v.5 floor standing speakers. Paradigm monitor cc-190 v.5 center speakers. I want to add a subwoofer and some surrounds in the future.

I can kinda afford the Anthem MRX but don't want to spend 1k more if it won't improve the audio quality much over this or reliability. Would appreciate the experts advice

Bought with PayPal pay in 4 20% off offer - will be a great upgrade! Didn't love that PayPal offer only let me pay with bank account debit vs credit card and have the typical purchase protections / additional warranty, but slim chance that will be needed so 20% back wins.

How is this receiver compared to comparable offerings from Denon and Yamaha?

De on is tops but you will pay for it. Yamaha has not refreshed their lineup in a while so this is better.

The main players I was thinking about: denon x2800h, denon x3800h, Onkyo rz30, Onkyo rz50, Onkyo nr7100, yamaha a4a, marantz cinema 60, Pioneer vsl-lx505

The main things to think about: reliability (especially around the HDMI board), Dirac vs ypao vs audyssey, independent sub outputs, whether you need 5.1.2 or 5.1.4.

I was watching these three: the x3800h for quality and a path to Dirac, the RZ50 for power and channels, and the RZ30 for a modern build and best value. I would have been happy with any of them depending on the price point. The RZ30 won with this price and now I just cross my fingers that I don't run into any reliability issues.

gemini or chatgpt will give you a really good summary of key differences and recommendations if you enter in your room details, priorities and budget.

PayPal seriously PISSING ME OFF! I have the 20% back offer but when I click on "Save Offer", it just keeps saying "Refresh the offer. Something's not quite right. Let's give it another go." Been that way for hours since I first tried. Receiver will be sold out by the time PayPal gets their shit together.

Here is make take from years of personal experience.
General speaking since there are so many factors to consider.

Easily the top three things that improve sound quality.
Speaker quality, their placement & room environment.

Imo AVRs, you pick more for features you need not really for improving SQ.
Yes they play a role but it's much farther down the chain especially to the 3 I mentioned.

That said I would suggest work on getting speakers 1st, then worry about an AVR.
If you need to upgrade go used with one that has the features you need.
With so many people going with soundbars, great units can be had imo.

BTW Anthem units are good but as you pointed out comes with a higher price.
This is a year old but their RZ50 is still very popular, guessing this will hold up at least just as well.

TBH imo unit failures are often more a human error rather than a manufacturer one.

Imo it depends on your priorities on features.
A very big/popular one is Dirac Room Correction.

Regarding that one feature:
This includes 1 of the 3 Dirac offers(DL) & offers access to another(DLBC).
Denon's 3800 doesn't include any of them but offers access to all 3(DL,DLBC,ART).
It also has access to A1EVO, which upgrades Audyssey dramatically & it's free!
Yamaha does not offer any access to Dirac.

Here is a comparison of this vs the 3800 to see differences.
You can use it to compare features of units you are considering.

The anthem is better by far. It has a learning curve but it's definitely better. I chose the anthem over arcam, denon a1, c30/40, rxa8a, rz50/70 and Sony es lineups. There's definitely a tonality difference that is brought to life by anthem receivers.
