Yeah and for a couple dollars more you can buy a new one. I'm all about saving money, but this is not it

Beware of Amazon resale and "like new". I used to say you get brand new items for a fraction of the cost but lately, they have been sending heavily used items missing parts and accessories. Twice in the past month I took a shot and what I received was pathetic. They also don't let you leave reviews about the condition either and reject it. That said, I don't know how badly you can use a USB stick so maybe not much of a risk

Purchased this within the last couple years. Use it for monthly local backup. Copies about 220 GB's relatively fast. No issues with it at all. This is one of two backup methods for me. The other is cloud real time storage. I like to have a 2nd copy. You never know.

Who in the world would buy a used usb stick off the internet? Just drive down the road to Walmart, every town has one.

I would NEVER buy a stick from Walmart ... and definitely NOT a used one from anyone else ...

It's very likely they are just open box returns that were never really used, but that's a risk to be sure. Fortunately those type of worm vulnerabilities are mostly patched these days, and it's unlikely someone is out there buying and selling/returning USB drives with a new zero day exploit just for the lolz. That said, I'm going to pass on this one.

Same experience here. I bought couple items "like new", it either missing part or damaged so never again. It is not worth saving 10%-30%. If people want them cheap, don't buy until seller further deep discount.

how reliable are these compared to say an SSD ? I don't need all that much space, do these last 5-10 years reliably?
No, not at all. USB drives are much less reliable than SSDs, especially for frequent use.

Almost no flash storage will last 5-10 years reliably. Flash storage is not reliable for backups: data is stored as voltage, and if you do not regularly use the device the charge can drop and data will be lost.
