Better price at MicroCenter $450 if you have one nearby you.

This deal, posted three days ago for $450 at Microcenter, can easily be matched at Best Buy with more thumbs up, yet it remains a popular deal. Apparently, staff members here get special privileges when they post their own deals.

Can you recommend any external storage drive that doesn't reach the 512GB price territory? I ordered this and I do like this price however storage is a concern. Don't want any remorse here. Looking to hear your input
not sure what your use case is. Our biggest use is photos/videos. For local storage, I bought Samsung t7. If your family is in apple ecosystem, $10 for 2T w up to 6 users is a good deal since you don't need to spend time transferring stuff from the phone. They also let you store videos from security cameras not counted in that 2TB. We used to try and save $ by using the lower cost solutions but it ended up taking a lot more time and it's not that much cheaper.

Thank you. My use case is the same as yours. I just don't have a dedicated Mac external storage. Your point helps and I don't want to take too much time transferring, considering that my current 256GB MacBook Air from 2015 make up of iOS backup to my family Apple ecosystem. It is collecting dust so I guess I have to opt for 512GB or higher.

Best Buy price matches microcenter $450. I've done it many times with other sales and just price matched the base m4 pro model for 1088.99 which Best Buy has for 1399. Micro center is 45 minutes from me and is out of stock for pick up.

Get a Mac mini M4 dock (like UGreen, about $50+) which adds several USB-A, USB-C, SD card ports and a M.2 NVMe enclosure, then buy a 1TB gen4 for ~$80. Total cost ~$140 + Mini's $450 = $590 before tax. You will be well under cost for Apple's 512GB configuration.

I am using Logitech Pebble 2 for Mac (both KB and mouse are BT), it's inexpensive but work well for me.

Note that if you visit a local BB store, they may not be able to price match to $450 due to system's price override restriction. But they can issue $50 gift card on the spot. That's how I got mine. It seems online purchases via chat have no such restriction.

I have an ancient pc in the basement that acts as a server for our laptops (windows), as well as a standalone machine when I need it. With the windows 11 forced upgrade, I'm loookung for an upgrade. Can this one replace my server? Can I connect to this one over the network wirelessly and backup from two laptops (pc), and one MacBook?

Be careful though iCloud is a syncing service. If you deleted on your device, it's probably going to get deleted in iCloud also. Better to have an external hard drive to save your photos and everything off-line.

Yes, you can easily use a Mac mini as a file server for Windows by enabling the built-in File Sharing in macOS, ensuring SMB protocol is active, and then connecting from your Windows PC using the Mac's network name or IP address to access shared folders, just like any other network share.

One great thing about the 2024 Mac mini (M4) as server is that it's very energy efficient. It draws as little as 4W at idle (and only reaches up to 65W under heavy load.)

I moved my Home folder to my external HD. That way anything I download, save, etc. is automatically saved to my external drive. The internal drive only houses the OS.
Since this machine still offers a hard drive size typically offered in a $200 laptop, I'm still holding out for the 512 GB version at this price.
