"why would you buy this over an instant pot?"
It's like a like someone from E. Asia asking an American "Why did you buy a BBQ for your steaks instead of a microwave?" <---exaggeration, but that kind of thing.
That said, how much do you care about rice? Might not be worth it for you.
Pressure cooking rice is better than the old steaming rice. Better even than my old zojirushi fuzzy logic cooker. The rice becomes al dente and imbued with a noticetable better texture. Guests notice. We miss our rice cooker when we eat out at Asian restaurants (although some do use the superior pressure cooker rice cookers).
We personally prefer the induction rice cookers which are more expensive. The time to cook rice goes down from 35-40 min down to 23 min or so for us. The setting we like most is "glutinous" (standard cook) and "mega heat" which gives us our favorite rice.
The machine lasts "forever." We bought our last one 12 years ago. And before that, about 18 years before. It will probably last 20 years with proper care. The models scarcely change. But, caveat, you do have to buy a replacement rubber liner (CCP-DH06 for example) once every 2 years or so ($15) when the rice texture starts getting a bit too hard or weird tasting. It is usually this rubber liner that will fix things. Please take careful care of the heavy, metal, inner pot--that is the key to induction cooking. And replacing that will cost nearly as much as a new cooker. Handwash, and with the soft side of the sponge.
