TurboTax is offering any edition of tax software for free if you use and only use their Mobile app and site for filing of 2025 taxes. This is not the TurboTax free product for low income customers but for anyone and any editions of their software.

https://turbotax.intuit.com/perso.../turbotax/

However, there are many caveats:
  1. You must file using their mobile app and site (If you continue or move to the desktop, they'll charge you the full amount)
  2. You must finish filing by Feb. 28, 2026. If you file after that date, they'll charge the full rate.
  3. The free rate only applies to the DIY service. If you opt for the expert products, the free rate will no longer apply.
  4. Must not have used TurboTax products for the 2024 tax filing
Typical Intuit gotchas but if you can work within their limits, you can file your tax for free using the higher end edition of their products.

Why are they pushing this mobile app so hard to give their product away for free? Who is gaining from this?

LOL - have to file by the end of February? I won't even get my Fidelity statements until mid-March. What a waste of a deal.

What is the benefit to them moving users from pc to mobile? Or is this just some gimmick for good PR and most will still need the PC version?

Frequently asked questions
What happens if I file my taxes after February 28?
If you file after February 28, 2026, the cost of TurboTax goes back to regular pricing, which is based on your tax situation.
The cut off time to file is 11:59pm ET on February 28, 2026.

Do I have to upgrade if I have a complex tax situation?
We might ask you to upgrade, but we'll waive the fee as long as you file on the app by February 28. However, if you don't file by February 28, the price of the upgrade will apply.
This applies to our paid Standard, Deluxe, and Premium products, which are typically required for more complex tax situations.
This includes situations like:
Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions
Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G
Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers)
Stock sales (including crypto investments)
Income from rental property or property sales
Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules

What if I don't end up filing my taxes using the app?
You're eligible for this offer when you start and file your taxes in the TurboTax or Credit Karma mobile app by February 28.
If you switch to doing your taxes using a web browser instead of the app, we'll show you a reminder that you must file in the app to redeem the offer.
If you choose not to file in the app, the cost of TurboTax will go back to regular pricing, which is based on your tax situation.

Can I still file for free without taking the offer?
~37% of filers qualify. Simple Form 1040 returns only (no schedules, except for EITC, CTC, student loan interest, and Schedule 1-A).
TurboTax Free Edition is available for qualifying new and returning customers on our website. Go to TurboTax website

What if I did file with TurboTax last year?
This offer is only available to taxpayers who didn't file with us last year.
Keep in mind, if you filed with us the year before last, but not last year, you're still eligible for this offer.
If you don't meet this eligibility requirement and try to create a new user account to try to claim this offer, this offer will not apply. Please log out, then sign in using the same credentials you used last year.

What's the difference between this and TurboTax Free Edition?
This is a limited-time offer from TurboTax that provides free, do-it-yourself filing for any tax situation. To qualify for this offer, you must meet the following requirements:
You must start and file your taxes in the mobile app
You must use the Do It Yourself product
You must not have filed your taxes using TurboTax last year
You must file this year's taxes by February 28, 2026
TurboTax Free Edition is a tax filing product that's available year round on the web or the app. However, only customers with simple tax situations are eligible. ~37% of filers qualify. Simple Form 1040 returns only (no schedules, except for EITC, CTC, student loan interest, and Schedule 1-A).

Updated with the 2024 limitation.
Since you're doing updates to the posts, I did this last year. I started the return on mobile, I did the data entry and printing on a laptop, and I did the filing on the phone, and got it for free. I think the post makes people think they have to do the hard part from the phone, and it wasn't true last year, and I doubt it's true this year.

I used this offer to file 2024 tax. How can I use again? One person say make new account. Another say they track you by ssn...
In same boat and wondering the same thing. Can always try making a new account and see if it's caught? I believe it clearly showed $0 filing in the costs so unless that changes at the absolute end it may work out?

The idea is that some people will start and then realize they don't have enough forms or can't finish it by February 28. And then they know most people will not want to start again and will end up buying the software.

It seems I missed the yearly Amazon deal which was normally $45 for Deluxe State and Federal.

The best price looks to $55 on Amazon. Anyone know of a better deal?
