Subscription is only required if you want it to identify the birds. I find that part unnecessary.

If you really want to know what bird is in your video that it captured, just send a screen shot up to your favorite AI and ask it. You'll quickly learn the 5 or so species that frequent your feeder. That'll probably happen during your free trial period of their subscription service.

At this price, I'd totally recommend this product.

Just make sure you can mount it somewhere the squirrels can't get to. That may require a dedicated pole mount. Mounting it on a tree as they picture is NOT a squirrel proof solution. 😂

I bought one of these last week when they were about the same price and set it up last night. By 7 in the morning I had videos of a cardinal, wrens, and sparrows. I'm using the Audubon spicy sunflower blend since squirrels are the worst in the city. I already have a heated bird bath and other feeders in the yard which is why they likely stopped by so quickly. Sometimes it can take a few weeks before birds come to a new feeder.

I turned down all AI stuff and subscriptions, works better than I expected so far in terms of clarity of the images with such quick moving birds.

edit: whoops, this isn't the version I bought, I grabbed the BF08, looks like same camera, different construction.

Are you able to download the videos off the device wirelessly? Is there a clip it saves that you can easily download?

We already know birbs are the ones doing all the AI data collection and surveiilance. It's nice to give them a place to recharge before getting back to work.

Why are squirrels a problem? I specifically want to catch video of a squirrel because they are very rare where I live

Lucky you, but you're a minority. Squirrels are referred to as "tree tats" where I am and are considered a "nuisance animal". They are extremely destructive - to homes, trees and bird feeders. They will eat all the birdseed so you won't ever see any birds, and then they'll chew up the feeder and any wiring to solar panels. They also raid bird's nest to eat their eggs and baby birds. We trap and relocate during spring because they rob all of our fruit trees (peach, apricot, cherry, apple) before we can harvest. Nothing pisses me off worse than finding a bunch of fruit with one squirrel bite out of it, but it's squished beyond hope. Can you tell I'm not a fan of the little a$$holes?
