This BalanceFrom power cage is a budget home gym starter that gets the basics done for squats, benching, pullups, and lat work. The cage and lat pulldown have held up well over time, and the low price is the main draw versus pricier racks. The biggest catch is attachment fit, since the uprights are an odd size and many third party accessories do not fit cleanly. The listing also appears to omit the safety bars or straps shown in photos, so it works best if you only need the included setup.

  • The rack and lat pulldown attachment can work as intended after over two years of use.

  • The lat pulldown attachment can function properly and the bottom row function can work well.

  • The rack can hold up in an approximately 800-pound drop test without the rack breaking.

  • The rack can be a solid starter option for home strength training when upgrading later.

  • The rack may not include the squat safety bars shown in listing photos, which can require sourcing separately.

  • The lat pulldown attachment price can change depending on whether the rack bundle or attachment is selected.

  • The upright size can be 2.3x2.3 inches, which can make many attachments not fit.

  • The bottom support bar placement can interfere with bench pressing, requiring bench repositioning.

Review of the rack here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEKJHFdIXYQ

not that anyone buying this is going to actually put 1000lbs on it but it is a completely made up number and the claimed steel gauge is also false advertising.
Video of it folding when 800lbs dropped on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXqE9T0wOs8

That being said, you will not find anything cheaper and it's probably safer than benching or squatting off of a squat stand which is the only other legitimate thing you could find at this price.
That review is not the same rack. That is a previous model. This has very different connecting brackets and a different pull-up structure. The rack current on SD is better than the one in the review video that you linked. Look at the pull-up setup of both, and you can easily see the difference. The second video that you linked is also the older version and not what is listed here.

I have this rack, bought it back in February for $130 or so. It's been great so far. I haven't thrown more than around 300 pounds on it (deadlifting weight doesn't go on it, so your squats are the biggest load), but I haven't detected any issues at all. The only thing I don't like about it is that the support bar going across the bottom is too far forward (it lines up with the rear vertical bars rather than being pushed back more). I have a wheeled bench and have to lift the front over the support bar to get it into the right position to bench press. I also need to lift the bench a bit with some wood/pads to get it in the right spot so that the safety bar is just below my chest height. Minor issue overall. My ceiling is also low, so I had to screw the pullup bar upside down and I really don't use it for anything.

I will also note that I attach a pully system to the top bar at times and with that, it does wobble when the weight gets heavy.

Oh, and one more thing. Mine didn't come with the safety bars (like the picture shows). I thankfully had a set of 3/4 inch black bars that I bought at home depot from my old wooden rack. So I use those.

Love my rack for what is it and how much it cost. It can get you going, and you can upgrade down the road without feeling like you lost much.

A rack like this, from REP fitness would EASILY cost $800+..... (yes its better quality, but there is quite a difference)

IMO, the average person will never put enough weight on this rack to grow out of it; and unless you're testing 1RM for some reason, you're already using less weight than you're capable of.

The only reason I could see someone upgrading is if they want additional accessories.

It actually held up better than I was expecting to that 800 pound drop test. Even the barbell bent and the rack didn't actually break. That was a massive impact.

Not sure about this unit, but the pullup bar looks similar to the mikolo m4. On that unit, you can invert it so it curves down instead of up if you have low ceilings so you have more clearance for pullups. You might be able to with this one too if thats a concern. Only mentioning because its easier to try during assembly vs after the fact.

Yes, specifically HulkFit. And if they are no longer in business, then that would limit some of the attachments as they are who primarily sold me mine. Thanks for the correction. I should have said that there were multiple companies using the size not that the size was a standard.
Bells of Steel's Residential Rack is still a 2.3" upright with 5/16th hole diameter (not sure about this rack). However, with some googling you should be able to find shims that allow you to use 3x3 attachments. There are adapters too allow 5/16th pegs to fit into 1" holes, too. Hole spacing would potentially be a problem for many attachments requiring more than one peg, though.

I'd rather see a 350 or 400 pound test. How many people are throwing more than 400 pounds on a rack like this? I think about 6% of lifters can manage squatting that. If you're in that 6%, you're probably not going to using a $100 rack. I know these YouTube channels go for the wow factor, but at least a realistic weight would be useful information.

While I chose to spend more money on a higher quality rack, that drop test is not really relevant. Safety straps should never be used on cheap racks like this. Pins only. Straps will inherently put inward force when under heavy load, pulling the uprights towards each other. Pins will transfer force downward only. If they did that same drop on pins, the rack wouldn't have buckled.
