I find it amusing that these cutters have been posted a handful of times in the last few months and for each deal post the comments tend to be either overwhelmingly positive, or overwhelmingly negative. But never a balance of positive/negative in the same deal posting.

I bought a couple pairs of these last spring and I've used them extensively. Best use so far for me has been while installing a new shingle roof. I used these to trim the synthetic underlayment, steel rain drip edges, asphalt starter strip and to trim the shingles for a nice straight clean edge. After all that they can still make a smooth cut in 20# paper.

My only complaint is with the latch that's supposed to hold them in the closed position. It didn't really latch well, but I fixed that with about 2 minutes and a file.

I am more skeptical after my last Kobalt purchase, the two pack HD scissors, that seemed less quality to me. But high praise and $7!

Kobalt is not really a brand, it is just a label. Hundreds or possibly thousands of different factories in many countries are making then. The quality and workmanship from each of those facilities can vary greatly

Kobalt tool made in one china factory can may be of quality and very nice and some other more like bargain bin china stuff.

With China and other overseas goods you can find specthular value and other times kind of junk. Thinking in terms of brands or buying brands can have you making mistakes.

Having said that I do think Lowes does pretty well with the Kobalt label stuff but it is hit and miss.
