Been a fan of these for a while. But especially if you buy an open box one, check to make sure the one inside is the model you ordered. The model before is nearly identical and I have received 2 of these that someone swapped the one inside the box for the old model.

I've had nothing but issues with Aimesh. Thought I had a weird home layout but after going through multiple main routers/nodes and getting connectivity issues, I switched to Deco and I've been solid ever since. Fine for a single router, not so good if you plan to set these up as a wireless mesh system.

I also have this router and can confirm it has been absolutely fantastic for the past 2 years. It replaced an Asus RT-AC5300, which was finicky at best.

Does support Merlin. $700 at launch in 2022. $300 is still a lot of money for a router. Wifi 8 coming before many even have Wifi 7.

There will be a firesale on WiFi 6E gear as the Wifi 7 devices are released. Since both use 6GHz, you may get better speeds buying high end 6E devices than similarly-priced entry-level WiFi 7 devices for a while.

Beware of ASUS router firmware: https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/com...s_routers/
I recently purchased the ASUS RT-BE96U that was on $d last month and after troubleshooting, realized its a deeply rooted firmware issue related to the WAN network stack across nearly all of the ASUS products. So odd. Luckily, it is still within the return window - so its going back. This may not be an issue for those NOT on cable modems or with a static WAN IP.

Thanks I am replacing my old RT-AC5300 with 2 of these after much headached and instability
I was running Merlin but now it's not supported so it was time to upgrade.
Do you still like it so far?
I haven't set mine up yet

Unless they put in a lot of effort to hide what model it is, the sticker on the bottom should tell you.

I ordered an open box RT-AXE7800 router from Amazon a few months ago and someone one had swapped it out as well. It may have been the same model but the serial number was completely different than what was on the box. I returned it and have stopped bothering with open box routers from Amazon.

Oops guess I order the AXE11000's
So I got what I ordered
I hope this is a decent investment since people are saying they're almost EOL now and they are like 6 years old almost and that there likely won't be Merlin support past EOL , something about the branch FW.
I got to set up with AI mesh but I guess worst case is I just eventually get a newer one and use these for AI mesh.
But not sure if that would be bad if there are no updates or if it only matters for the main router
