RX 7600 and Ryzen 8400F was $550 earlier in the week from the same seller. Maybe that will come back.

And that is comparable to the Steam Machine. I'm still hoping the GabeCube is no more than $600.

The pricing leaks are suggesting 900 at minimum

One interesting thing of note is that if you're looking for a sub-$1k PC for the living room to compete with the upcoming Steam Machine, is that the Steam box will most likely be weaker than this, and best-case scenario cost about the same, with worst-case scenario being that it costs significantly more.

And it won't hold a candle to dedicated videogame console like the PS5 Pro. This is why releasing gaming hardware at or above cost is a losing business model and proposition, if you aren't at least partially subsidizing the cost of the hardware with revenue from either subscription services, or sales of exclusive, first-party games, like what Sony and Nintendo do.

Cheapest 4060 on Newegg is $350 now, wow! You can get a 5060 for $329, they're both only 8GB though. This is still a good deal imo. 16GB DDR5 is $200-$220, $220 for the i5. Just those three things you're already pretty close to the asking price.

Your first paragraph is 100% spot on, this is a decent computer for a decent price and is cheaper than a Steam Machine's leaked price.
But your second one is missing the point of the GabeCube I think. I have over 800 games on steam, same account since 2003. (I already have a PC hooked up to my TV, so I don't need a steam machine.) The goal of the machine is if you are already in the ecosystem, you already have a library for the machine and don't have to buy console specific games. Valve prints money with the Steam store (games, gun skins, trading cards) they don't need subscriptions. Also Sony has started porting all their exclusives to Steam, I am currently playing Dad of Boy...sorry God of War on my deck and it plays awesome.
