Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

Did you rebrand to tracfone or just using esim to sign up one month of tracfone service?
I signed up one month of tracfone via esim on the IMEI2 when asked, no rebranding. Also, I did have my ST sim still on the device as well. But when I talked to ST live chat or tracfone live chat and provided the device IMEI (1 and 2esim), I explained I bought 30days each even though its the same device, but ST live chat said I still need another 30days on their end, while Tracfone explained I needed 90days continous. I might have to give unlocking department a call.

you have to call unlock Dept for the unlock. Its not automatically for some devices. I just unlocked my Stylus (90 days on tracfone) by calling.
What information does the unlocking department ask for when calling, device serial or IMEIs? Also was your eSIM Tracfone or simcard?

only ask for imei. they will look for activation date and payment history from their end. I used simcard that came with the phone.

I called unlock Dept and provided the IMEI 1. They told that they cannot see my StraightTalk activation but Tracfone, and they can unlock my phone after paying for one more month of service.

I see. Not sure why need 3rd month given you did rebrand/activate on tracfone before 1/20.

I see. So after 1 month of tracfone [that is before 1/20] and you have total two month paid service {1 straight talk + 1 tracfone}, you did not call them to see why the phone not unlocked. This is different from other folk's experience.

I activated my phone on 12/28/2025, and I also did 2nd month Tracfone eSim. The phone is still not eligible for unlock.
That sucks. I had my two phones activated on Tracfone as well, and not hitting 60 days yet. It sounds like I might have wasted the month by paying TF.

Same boat. Initial activation with ST on 1/12 followed by activation with TF on 2/11. Will check for unlock on 3/13 (the day after tomorrow) and report back.

I think because of the new rule Jan20, it messed up the esim activations where their system doesn't count towards the original or we should've rebranded first to TW and activated on sim/same IMEI1 so that it counts towards the original activation date. Backup plan is just to shell out the $35 bronze ST and be done with it.

Also, not that it matters, but I did try to port out my TF numbers to Metro, and it became a zombie lines.

EDIT: I got one of my phone unlocked

TLDR: To fulfill the 2nd month, I rebrand ST phone (use IMEI1) to TF with original ST simcard and buy the $15 or $10autopay. After buying, go to the tfunlock portal site https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/wps/portal/home and input your information, and it should be eligible to unlock.

My backup plan is to call 1-888-442-5102 and talk to them nicely if they (I have two) are not unlocked automatically by checking the imei at https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/wps/portal/home/ 😀

Great news! My two phones became unlocked.
  • Initially activated on 1/12/2026 on ST with the included plan.
  • Activated on 2/11/2026 on TF on the $15 plan (paid $11.50 with autopay) without rebranding and got a new number.
  • Checked for eligibility on 3/13/2026 https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/wps/portal/home/ with IMEI1 (original ST sim)
  • Rebooted and became unlocked in a minute
The website asked for a phone number because there was service attached. I entered the TF number but it said it was incorrect. Tried IMEI2 but was told it was not eligible! So I started over with IMEI1 and entered the original ST number. It then took me to the page asking for my name and email address. Didn't receive any email. So I just rebooted the phone. It initially showed locked but less than a minute later, it became unlocked.
Good luck everyone!
