They are the exact same guts inside, except the r8W allows you to update the firmware and database wirelessly where the original R8 needs to be plugged into a computer via USB. Performance wise they are the exact same and this is a great deal.

Very few people drive the posted speed limit on freeways, and that's fine. Radar detectors allow you to focus more on your driving and the drivers around you instead of being distracted by constantly looking out of cops and cameras.

This is basically for the slow driving Prius on the left lanes so they don't get ticketed for hogging the left lane in tortoise mode.
