This is my all time favorite D-pad. It's very accurate with no accidental diagonals. You do have to press the buttons with some conviction, which I can see being tiring for some people during a long session.

One downside this controller has is: When using the dongle, and therefore the dock, you can only use Xinput, so you can't get fancy with the button mappings. You can only set macro keys to standard Xbox buttons. The ultimate controller lets you use Dinput with it's dongle. So you can go into Steam and map mouse clicks, keyboard commands, whatever you want.

Great price, but really wanted this in the GameCube Purple or Orange colors and those are coming out to $61 still.

This or the ultimate 2? Looks like the major difference is preference between Xbox layout and ps layout?

Switch and Switch 2 Pro controller? This one has better joysticks that will never drift and the d-pad is a joy to use. It's tactile with a barely audible click, but it feels much better than the Xbox d-pad. This will not wake Switch 2 from sleep though. I was wrong about this. If you sync the controller via Bluetooth, you can "shake to wake" the Switch 2.

I have both and I honestly prefer the Ultimate 2 over the Pro 3, but ever so slightly. The Pro 3 is perfect for d-pad focused games (platformers, fighting games).

Correct, the dongle only supports Xinput and Switch direct connect. Dinput is only through Bluetooth.

However, you can still use the dock to charge the controller. You just have to sync the controller with Dinput manually via Bluetooth.

I've read articles that there is a new fw for pro 3 that allows waking switch 2. Have you tried it?

I had mine docked to the Switch 2 and it didn't work.

Turns out, you need to sync the controller separately via Bluetooth (without the dongle). I just tried it out using 8bitdo's instructions [youtube.com] and Shake to Wake indeed works!

How is it for games using dual sticks? I quite like the sticks in their Ultimate controller, but I've heard these aren't as good for modern games?

Ergonomics are great and these are tmr joysticks. They'll last a bagillion years, also use way less battery. These appear to be top spec joysticks. Here:
