The TCL QM8K is a bright, feature packed Mini LED TV that stands out in sunlit rooms and for Google TV flexibility. It is described as handling glare through sheer brightness, with vivid mode and roughly 3000 effective nits, and it adds an ATSC 3.0 tuner plus strong app compatibility. The glossy screen can still raise reflection concerns in very bright spaces, and some comparisons favor Samsung's matte finish or Sony's longer track record. Pricing also moved around, with reports of the 75 inch model at $1500, earlier lows near $1400, and a recent drop to $1299.

Common Questions (5)

  • The TCL QM8K relies on high brightness and a glossy panel, while the Samsung QN90F/QN90D uses a matte or anti-glare finish that reduces reflections more directly. In very bright rooms, the Samsung can make blacks look cleaner and reflections easier to manage, but the TCL is still favored by some for overall picture pop and brightness.

  • Yes. It is described as plenty bright for sunlit rooms, including one setup that replaced a Sony OLED in an extremely bright living room. One comment also cites about 3000 effective nits in vivid mode, which is the main reason it can overcome glare without a matte screen.

  • Yes, and that matters if you watch a lot of Dolby Vision content. Samsung alternatives are repeatedly called out for lacking Dolby Vision, which is a deciding factor for shoppers who want that format.

  • Best Buy is reported to match Amazon at the posted price, and Costco is mentioned as offering the 75-inch model for the same $1500 with an extended warranty. A later comment says the deal dropped to $1299 at Best Buy and Amazon.

  • At the prices discussed, the Bravia 7 is about $200 more, while the 75-inch QM8K is described as $300-400 less than the Samsung QN90F. The TCL is also favored for Google TV, ATSC 3.0, and broader app compatibility, while some shoppers still choose Sony for long-term reliability and warranty coverage.

Going back and forth between this TV in 75" and Sony Bravia 7 for the same price. Relatively light controlled room with no real glare issues behind the seating area. Had multiple Sony TVs over the years that have lasted 10+ years while one TCL experience is failed board after 3 years. Costco has the Sony for $1500 with 3 year extended warranty. Feel like these are similar enough that going with Sony seems like the safe choice.

Probably been asked before, but I'm torn between the QM8K and the QN90F for a very bright room (sun streaks through transom windows everyday). I have an order with Samsung EPP for an 85" QN90F, but it won't be delivered until 2/21. So I get to second guess myself for a month.
It seems like the QM8K overcomes glare with shear brightness whereas the QN90F has a matte surface that eliminates glare at the expense some color and contrast. For those who may have a QM8K in a bright room, do you notice the glossy finish at all? Thanks!
The qm8k is plenty for a bright room (in vivid mode). Samsung is overpriced and overrated. Plus this is a company that routinely price gouges... just look at dram and ssd right now... very unethical.

This is a highly rated TV. I'd love to get one just to see how it is compared to my C5.

Probably the QM8K since it has a future-proof ATSC 3.0 tuner.

Also GoogleTV for better app compatibility. Better IPTV apps if you want to go down the rabbit hole of IPTV. Get 1000 channels for $100/year online.

Torn between one of these and a c5. My 2018 tcl r gets brighter than the c5 even still, not that my living room is that bright but sdr brightness watching YouTube makes me apprehensive. Hmm.

I am curious...what was the price difference at the time you bought between the Samsung and the TCL?
Is this with the price hump from a qm7k? Wanting to get a second TV but considering just grabbing the 7k again

I would go for the TCL and buy the 5 year warranty

if you were considering the Sony bravia 9 that would be another story

I paid $1799 + tax from Best Buy on the QN90F. I believe the TCL was ~$2k at the time. I went with a 75", so pricing a little different than this one.

The 75" TCL is on sale for $1500 now. Even had I waited, I think the Samsung was the better fit for my bright room with lots of windows.

$1400 was the lowest for the 75" QM8K. I'd still get the TCL one the QN90F. Getting rid of my QN90D and gonna grab a 85 QM8K before the superbowl

Everyone's criteria is different, but Samsung TVs are no-go for me because they refuse to support DolbyVision, but I recognize that's not important to a lot of people.
I used to be like this, but I haven't needed Dolby vision on my S95B Oled. I would stay away from lowered end TV's without Dolby vision, though.
