Best Buy has the Starlink Mini Kit on a killer clearance/sale: $199.99 (save $300 off the original $499.99 price!). This is the portable backpack-friendly satellite internet kit from SpaceX.
Key specs:
AC Dual Band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz)
Integrated modem/router
Wi-Fi 5, mesh capable
Super compact for travel, camping, RVs, remote work, etc.
In-store only (or check your local store): Best Buy's ongoing networking recycle program lets you bring in any old modem, router, or gateway to recycle and get a 15% off coupon toward a new modem/router/gateway purchase at the current selling price.
Apply it to this Starlink Mini → 15% off $199.99 = ~$30 savings → effective ~$169.99 (before tax)
YMMV – program is in-store only, coupon on the spot, excludes certain brands but often works for general networking gear. Old device not returned. Valid through at least 1/1/27 per Best Buy site. Confirm with store staff if Starlink qualifies as it's listed under "Trade-in offer" on the page.
Great for off-grid spots, backup internet, or anywhere traditional broadband sucks. Requires separate Starlink service subscription (not included).
Hot if you're eyeing a Mini—grab it quick as stock/price can fluctuate!

Ps.: the store I went to the manager had to override saying that some stores might have limitations and that his computer was saying it excluded starlink products. I showed him the best buy website listing and the trade in on the starlink mini and it didn't say any excluding for starlink products. He did give me for $169 at the end lol
Im trying to post a picture of the receipt

How much for a month?
$50 or $160 depending on the data plan. That stopped me in my tracks

The old router trade in option is supposed to require you to use Geek Squad in home installation (or whatever they call it at BB).

I tried to get it from the manager, I tried super nice. They'd kept me waiting for a LONG time before he came to the register and it took him a minute to figure it out.

Obviously OP got someone to override it for them, but no luck for me. And my friends would tell you I'm the one that's usually successful in these things...
The manager who told you that was wrong. I've used this coupon at least six times in the last year because I play around with a lot of routers, and no manager has ever said the install is required. The coupon will discount the hardware and the labor if you want both, but you can just buy the hardware by itself.

The coupon with terms, for reference: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/recy...7300657381

anyone tried it?
how's the reception?
and other hidden fees?
I just toss mine up on the dash when I'm driving through the mountains and deep canyons. Never dropped a single phone call and only had phone calls break up for a split second a couple times. Doesn't matter if I'm heading north or south either.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you
The manager did give me crap at first but I told him either your website is wrong or the store, so I can be done? And he said this is valid for some stores only. Then I said, well how do I know which store is good or not? How do I know? I just went on the website and follow the instructions to the store to trade it in, drove 40 minutes but I don't mind driving to the next store, just want to make sure they are good. Then he lied to apply the promotion and it worked, he did have to manually override, so it's YMMV
It worked for me, I posted the receipt, hopefully someone else get score too. I couldn't find anywhere cheaper than that. And the free one from starlink it's only a rental, and requires the max service for $120. I'm in the residential lite grandfathered plan, not really looking to change and lose that plan, so this is better. Also I like owning my stuff and not renting
They offer free rentals for all tiers of service, including residential 100Mbps @ $50. You get the starlink mini as a free rental with the $50 plan and you get the bigger gen 3 with the two higher tier plans (on the max plan they offer both so you have the mini for travel). So spending $170-200 on this doesn't make sense unless you want to pause service often

Theyll give it back after the cruise, but you give it up before you even get on the ship and they hold it for you.

Also - satellite connectivity is quietly shipping on a ton of phones these days. Needing to spend money on a starlink mini will be irrelevant in the mext few years. So only buy if you absoluty need it now.
They already offer free rentals on all tiers of service so buying the mini doesn't makes sense even now for most people

Is it possible to purchase this and go straight to the "standby" subscription?
Or do I need to subscribe for a month and then immediately downgrade to standby?
Anyone has experience with this?
I want it for a "bug out" bag to get wifi calling during a major blackout or something...

Starlink was giving them away a few weeks ago. I have a home system but they gave the travel kit to me and only charge $25 extra a month to use it.

2012 for me, had that on Wildblue satellite, 7.5GB download, 2.3GB upload 30 day rolling cap until then. Upgraded to 3 Mbps then. 2006 was still dialup.
