Metro is locked to its own network and will not work with T-Mobile. It used to work the other way around, but I recall T-Mobile ended up blocking that as well. Don't count on using this Metro device on T-Mobile or any of its other MVNO until it is unlocked.

I feel sad after I found out that Verizon and all of its sub cellphone brands now require a year of service to unlock a smartphone. It used to be 30 days of service + wait another 30 days of no service, then auto unlock.
Correct me if I am wrong, I think Metro is still doing the one month of service + 11 months of waiting to get the auto unlock.
This 2025 Moto g power 5g comes with ESIM. Metro switched to default ESIM, no more sim card to be inserted into the phone.
In case anyone asks, you can use this phone with just Wifi and never pay any monthly/yearly bill.

That 365 day unlock countdown is so anti-consumer. I would have been ok with 6 months of paid service, especially on the more budget oriented phones they tend to give away on the cheap or free. I am very happy I went with an unlocked Moto Stylus from Amazon and just got a cheap promo plan on it. These big mobile service providers will get their pint of blood from customers one way or another.

Why are you complaining about something when not paying full price for it?

The 2024 Moto G Power for $95 at Best Buy when you add the $26 Visible SIM. While not technically cheaper, it would be my suggestion. Some have reported being able to not pickup the SIM and just getting the phone for discounted price, which would be $70 if it worked out. No 365 day wait to get it unlocked, and the 2024 is a better device in some specs.
Got the best buy. Tempted on this as well. For the updates.

The SIM lock on this model can be bypassed using paid software. Requires root.
don't do root folks. especially if you're going to be doing sensitive/financial apps on your phone.

I love getting my phones every couple years dirt cheap thanks to some Slickdeals post. I got this phone on ATT for $22 and it is easily the best deal I've ever received on a phone. Should be unlocked in 2 more months based on when I activated it
That said, these companies play laws of averages. If everyone played the Slickdeals card, they would go out of business within a year. These phones cost more to manufacture.
Worked for a high end sourcing company and the cost to make a phone like this is above $55 per unit.
I agree 365 days is a long wait (I've gone that route once) especially if you are literally cancelling the plan after 1 month and then putting it in a drawer. It takes planning and patience so you basically get your new phone next year.
But that is the price to pay to get the phone literally cheaper than the manufacturer could build the thing for.

Glad to help.

I get Android phones for cheap and give it to family & friends after unlocking. I now have two of Total's 2025 Moto Stylus unlocked. Decent phones especially for the price and features.

If only Moto did a good job with OS support, these would be awesome.
How long until Total Wireless phones unlock? And only 1 paid month?

Stupid question….Purchasing from Best Buy, are individuals just not using the SIM card? Since it's an unlocked phone? I don't need visible service.

One of only 12 phones currently on the market that has a full feature set...

8 core CPU
8GB RAM
128GB ROM
OIS on main camera
MicroSD card slot
3.5mm headphone jack
QI wireless charging
NFC
5000mAh battery

The bestbuy deal is much better though since it comes unlocked for $40 more. 365 days is a long time to wait for a phone to be unlocked.
