These are a great buy at this price. A lot of folks in the "hobby" have this in their arsenal. Can't recall the last time I've seen them new at this price point.

Grabbed a pair last year. Have them plugged in to the Receiver's Headphones jack. Seems to work well wondering if any of you using them with an amp. Would that make a significant improvement in sound quality? If so, which amp would you recommend?
I use a Bottlehead Crack. It's a tube amp kit you put together yourself. It's meant for high impedance cans like these.
Wondering if I should switch to these, not a huge price increase.
In my opinion, it is worth it to switch to the 6xx for $49. They are timeless headphones that will last decades. I still have my original 650 from 2004.

When I first started looking for a good set of headphones I was unable to try them out locally so I ended up getting a few sets off amazon and trying them out and returning what I did not want. I tried the HD600, HD650 and the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. For me the HD600 lacked bass, the DT 770 had bloated bass, but the HD650 was just right. I ended up buying the HD6xx and was unable to decern any difference in sound between them and the HD650.
Only thing I would say is you will be unlikely to drive the HD6xx properly with a phone or Apple headphone dongle. I ended up getting a Hidizs S9 Pro dongle and a set of balanced cables (running balanced cables effectively doubles the output for electronics reasons I dont fully understand) that drives them very well. This unfortunately adds to the cost of everything but the whole set is an absolute treat.

I bought a pair of the hd6xx from massdrop almost 10 years ago and they are still going strong. I've had to replace the cord and the pads, but both are modular so it's incredibly easy. Fantastic headphones for the price.
Any recommendations for a DAC to use between my computer and these? I am in the same boat as a lot of other users where I ordered the HD599's yesterday and these today.

The JDS Labs Atom DAC is a good basic DAC at a reasonable price if you like uncolored sound. I have the Atom DAC 2, which cost about $75.00 used.

Does anyone have firsthand experience with the HD6xx compared to the K702? It seems like the K702 has more detail and air. Just curious. Thanks
I have both the HD6xx and K702 and the K7xx. I use them for different things.
The K702 and K7xx have a huge sound stage. The K702 is tuned a bit bright so excels in sound separation in jazz, instrumental music(classical guitar etc), they EQ really well so they can be tuned down or up. Out the box they are a bit weak on bass. They EQ really well, again, it's amazing. They are phenomenal for gaming, the positional audio cues in games makes it a game changer. The K7XX fixes a lot of the chief complaints in the K702s without EQ but these EQ well as well. I use tube amps and a DAC to correct the K series sound to my liking and added a bit of warmth. The K series also have a VERY low noise floor. It exposes really bad input sources so keep that in mind when pairing with a tube amp(hissing). Construction on the K702 I dislike, too many moving parts. Within a year my plastic guides for the elastic has broke which doesn't affect the fit or function, it just feels cheap like a Koss or something which sucks. It's comfortable though for hours of use. The K7XX have since replaced my K702s but I'd use either.
The HD6XX have a 'veil' over them if you come from brighter headphones. I find them pleasant and easy to listen too. Great clarity and more of a personal sound to them compared to the K series. I use these for work when listening to podcasts, videos, and media, nothing critical. They are also easy to drive and just a overall really pleasant sound. I have not done critical listening with them and only have a small USB Fiio KA3 amp(which honestly it doesn't need). Has a high noise floor. Also very comfortable. Better built as well.
I don't think you can go wrong if you have different use cases for them. I have two PCs so i have different use cases. Maybe that would fit for you too.
