Is this a good deal?

These phones are 2.5 years old at this point. They have another 3.5 years in them before Apple slows them down (by making the OS heavier and heavier each year) to the point where they are frustrating to use. And you'll have to pay for a $100 battery swap to use them for another 3.5 years.
These are used phones. Why are they still so expensive?

No, this is not a good deal. They are practically three years old. Disagree on Apple slowing down. I used my previous iPhone close to a decade. Just one battery change. I upgraded because … well apps stopped supporting that model and OS.

The base iPhone 17 ($800) is so good this year that most people should just go with that instead of considering a refurbished/used 2+ yr old phones.

I second this. New battery and longer iOS support with the iPhone 17.

Well, I have an old iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB as my secondary phone. It is frustratingly slow since the iOS 26 update. There are lots of stutters when it just won't respond for several seconds.
Are phones really usable for a decade? That is not my experience. I have two old iPhone 6S Plus phones that I turn on occasionally when I need a third phone. They are almost completely unusable. They have been for years now.

Naaa, no woman will give you her phone number if you pull out a base iPhone that's not a Pro (Max). Some may even laugh in your face and call you poor. Signaling status is why people pay 2x as much for an iPhone as for a good Android phone. Women keep Apple in business. Women keep used Apple prices high. They will simply not text back if they see a green bubble.
