I almost didn't get this one because I punch in a lot of numbers once or twice a week for work and there's no number pad, but I gave in and bought a $20 bluetooth add-on, and I'm satisfied with that solution. The XL touchpad is responsive and has a few tricks up its sleeve. Beware if you need a lot of storage there is no second NVME slot, although that's true of most non gaming-oriented laptops these days, and prices for bigger drives have skyrocketed in the last year or so (thanks AI data centers, GRRR).
Everything works, the white keyboard backlight actually works particularly well with the white/silver keyboard, which I was skeptical of. I'm running Pop OS linux mainly and everything is working well, as it does with Windows. Haven't played any games yet. Speakers are decent for a laptop and get loud. It's not a $3000 gaming laptop or Macbook Pro but this is a nice overall package for a grand.

This Zenbook S 16 stands out as a thin, light OLED laptop with strong specs for $1,000, especially the Ryzen AI 9 365, 24GB memory, and 1TB SSD. The 3K OLED panel gets praised for color and brightness, and the aluminum build, battery life, and responsive touchpad add to the premium feel. Radeon 880M graphics land around RTX 3050 mobile territory, so light gaming and everyday use look solid. Main caveats are soldered memory, no second NVMe slot, limited ports, and thermals that can run warm under load. Speaker quality and webcam privacy cover also draw complaints, making it a capable but not perfect all around package.
Common Questions (5)
The thin chassis can heat-soak and get warm, especially in higher power modes. Undervolting with G-Helper and setting lower power limits can improve thermals a lot, and ASUS has also reduced the BIOS power limits over time, which helps cooling but caps peak performance.
The speakers are reported as either excellent for a thin laptop or disappointing enough to make the machine feel cheap. They are side-firing, get loud, and can be fine for casual media, but they do not match MacBook-level depth and may bother anyone sensitive to audio quality.
The Radeon 880M is roughly in the RTX 3050 mobile range, a bit slower but still solid for an integrated GPU. It can handle older games or lighter titles well, while newer games may need reduced settings because the laptop's power limits cap maximum performance.
No. The RAM is soldered, and the machine uses LPDDR memory, so it cannot be upgraded later. That makes the 24GB configuration a fixed tradeoff: faster and lower power, but not expandable.
Yes. It has been reported to run Pop!_OS and Fedora Linux well, with everything working normally. That makes it a viable option if Linux compatibility matters.
