With newer fiber 2Gbps + speeds on the rise, these will be all over eBay soon enough for pennies on the dollar! I had to replace all of mines after updating my internet to meet newer multi-Gig standards. Glad I had Cat 6 cables and it was one less thing to also replace
thanks

Probably not. 1 GbE switches would still work great for most people even if they have 2+ Gbps fiber. Also, Cat6 is not required for 2.5 GbE. Cat5e is capable of 10 GbE in many cases.

Yep, I've been waiting for the 1Gb POE switches to start go on discount. Phones and cameras dont need 2.5+ Gb. Smilie But computers/laptops arent jumping out the 2.5Gb bandwagon quite yet. When they all come with a 2.5Gb network card, then these should be floating off.

The majority of households in the U.S. are still not on 1G and far fewer are on >1G. You can also aggregate multiple LAN ports on most quality home Internet routers and on this particular 8 port switch so the path to >1G doesn't necessarily demand a new switch. Nevertheless, we appreciate classic FUD on Slickdeals. ;-)

Even if that were true (it's not), shipping alone is generally at least half this price.
Fact is, most folks have little to no need for >1gigabit. Even as a tech guy I really don't saturate my gigabit connection very often - probably less than a few minutes total per month.. really not a whole heck of a lot to gain by going to 2.5GbE or higher.

Yes, and this is brand new. Secondhand on eBay switches are an unknown quantity.

I just bought it. I hope 1GbE networking gear goes down in price. People's obsession with the latest and greatest will drive consumer spending to things they don't need (2.5GbE switches and gear). I will benefit in the meantime hopefully due to decreasing prices.

I find it hilarious wannabe techie Dads waste their time and money on stuff they don't need. It's so easy to get cheap and good networking gear on the used market too nowadays if you don't mind used stuff. I would recommend checking that out. I found a 24 port PoE 1GbE switch for $20 on Facebook Marketplace. I was temped to buy it even though I didn't need it at the time. Guy was upgrading to 2.5GbE. I was like wtf do you need that for your basic a$$ house?? I mean in my head. I didn't say anything to him directly...

SD cross references similar posts when I go to post deals - in this case, it showed all expired deals for this item, and did not identify the active one. Here are the past deals (expired) when searching the GS308E model number associated with this switch:

https://slickdeals.net/search?q=GS308E&searcharea=deals&searchin=first&isUserSearch=1&searchtype=normal&filters%5Bforum%5D%5B%5D=0&sort=recent&filters%5Brating%5D%5B%5D=all&filters%5Bdate%5D%5B%5D=1095&page=1

The repost you show does not contain the model number in the deal description; it would be helpful if people would include the model number in their deal posts to prevent repostings by others (in this case, me), especially since that post is by a staff member.

For those that have purchased this model and having issues with saving VLAN settings: https://www.snbforums.com/threads...lan.93891/

Note: "these switches can be managed only over an untagged port". Not sure if this is the root cause of my issue, but be aware in any case.

Thank you for this! I am in the process of rebuilding my home network securely using VLANs and needed managed switches. Will avoid these now...

I'm not experiencing this problem. I'm running firmware V1.0.1.9 with Basic Port-Based VLAN, and I'm currently logged on and configuring it from a port that's assigned to VLAN 1.
