I don't trust that Ryobi won't just move to a new battery standard and these will be obsolete in a year.

Ryobi is pretty good with innovation, I think if they ever did change the battery they would also have an adapter make everything work. You can already buy aftermarket adapters to get batteries to work on different brands.

And during that 30 years, they've made numerous and significant upgrades to both battery capacity and performance...while retaining compatibility with virtually all Ryobi 18v devices.

For example, I have an 18 year old Ryobi "blue" jigsaw that was sold when the only available batteries were NiCd but it continues to provide reliable performance with the latest Lithium-ion batteries.

Unfortunately this 3 battery deal has expired...price is now $298.
But the original 2 battery deal is still active at $129.

You want to talk obsolete I have a Dewalt 9.6V and a 14.4V Drill. I can't get Dewalt batteries for either one except knock-offs. I still have a couple Craftsman 19.2V C3 line tools again no batteries except knock-offs. There's nothing wrong with any of those tools they all still work fine but are basically obsolete. In 2017 my wife and son gifted a Ryobi Impact Driver brushless, two batteries and a charger for Father's Day. It still works as good as the day I took it out of the box and has driven 1000's 3' and 3 1/2" deck screws around the farm for projects and repairs. I now have somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 Ryobi 18V tools and 6 Ryobi 40V tools. I've lost exactly one battery in each voltage range. A couple years ago one of these hit the FB Marketplace it has a kinda cult following so when it showed up nearby I had to have it. They call it a Six Pack. The one I got had the original batteries plus a couple newer batteries, the thing is nice, paid $90 for the whole thing, it originally sold for $400 which was a lot back in . I can roll to where I'm working and the old blue tools still work just fine. I don't think the small miter saw was ever used and it works fantastic. I can pop any 18V Ryobi battery currently being made into those old blue tools and they still work fine today. No other brand that I know of can do that.
