The real deal here is the Open Box Excellent for $783. I have this laptop and it's great. You won't get a thinner, lighter 16" laptop, and the display is beautiful. No complaints.
The Zenbook S 16 stands out as a thin, light 16 inch laptop with a gorgeous 120 hertz OLED touch display, strong Ryzen AI performance, and useful ports like USB A and HDMI. It handles productivity, media, coding, and even light gaming well, with fast login through Windows Hello and a solid keyboard and touchpad. Heat and fan noise are the main concern, especially under heavier loads, though firmware updates and lower power settings have helped some units run cooler and quieter. Open box condition varies a lot, so packaging, wear, and SSD usage are worth checking closely. A strong all around Windows alternative if OLED and portability matter most.
People who prioritize a vivid OLED screen for movies and reading, because the 120Hz 3K panel is repeatedly described as beautiful and eye-catching.
Mobile professionals wanting a thin 16-inch work laptop, because it stays fast for productivity, web, and media while remaining comfortable at lower power.
Mostly stationary buyers needing a desktop-replacement laptop, because it is thin enough for the couch yet still feels solid and handles heavy multitasking well.
Gamers wanting sustained high-performance play, because the slim chassis can throttle under power-hungry workloads and the integrated graphics are only modest.
Use HWiNFO64 or CrystalDiskInfo to inspect the NVMe drive's total time on, power cycles, and bytes written. Very high power-on hours or extreme power-cycle counts can indicate a floor model or unusually heavy prior use.
For browsing, media, and productivity, it can run comfortably and often stays quiet, especially after firmware updates and with MyASUS set away from the highest performance mode. Heat and fan noise can still show up with gaming or other power-hungry workloads, where throttling is more likely.
Condition varies a lot: some open-box units arrive essentially new with original packaging and low SSD hours, while others come dirty, scratched, missing the original box, or even with loose panels and damaged lids. Store pickup seems safer than shipped open-box, and checking the unit in-store before leaving helps.
No, it uses integrated graphics rather than a dedicated GPU. It can handle light gaming and integrated-graphics workloads well, but demanding games may be limited by the slim chassis and power limits.
The 16-inch 120Hz 3K OLED touch display is repeatedly described as beautiful and eye-candy, with strong preference over standard IPS panels for content viewing. One concern raised is a possible screen-door effect, but other owners report not noticing anything weird on the screen.

Ordered the open box excellent for this price and it arrived today. I was shocked to see it in a very skimpy friction sleeve. No original box, paperwork, accessories or anything other than the power supply literally in that sleeve rubbing against the laptop. I don't think I've ever seen such an overstated condition on a device! I took pictures and am sending it back. Glad you got a deal but mine was definitely not as advertised.
Bought one Open box excellent for $780 pre-tax to upgrade from my HP Envy x360. Hoping the condition is actually what it says it is, as i tried open box before and got a dented laptop with a slightly splitting screen

That's unfortunate. I'd say my worst open-box items are those that are shipped. I have pretty good luck on pickup. I've had laptops sent missing the laptop even! The original box is a pretty fancy presentation. But I think all it really comes with is the charger. Why not try it out?

The power brick being packed in the friction sleeve really did a number on the top edge of the lid of the laptop. It might come off but between that and not having a box it was enough to not want it. I'm pretty finicky about having boxes for resale value and I feel that not having one in this case will greatly diminish resale down the road.
I did a store pickup for Fair. Checked out the box in store before leaving and it looked relatively new. Cover still on trackpad, power supply still wrapped.
Last one that was fair had deep scratches and dented, so definitely YMMV.
I'm curious about the heat dissipation as well. Thanks for bringing that topic in focus.
because of the form factor and slimness, most Zenbooks don't dissipate heat well.
If you're using the device for productivity/web browsing/media watching, standard stuff, then if you switch it 18w, the laptop is very comfortable. It is extremely fast for productivity use at this power limit.
If you're using power hungry programs that's capping the TDP of the chip, then it may throttle back after some use, with high fan usage. So, stuff like gaming and such.

Unfortunately for us, BestBuy changed their Open box "Excellent" definition a few months back to say it may NOT come with original box -- presumably so they can sell what was "Good" (and only missing original box) for a higher price as an "Excellent". Pretty lame. I'm with you, though, and prefer the original box because sometimes I play with it a bit then turn it around and it's worth more with original box.

Thanks for this comment. Ordered and arrived in a day. Basically brand new, all protection stickers still on it, SSD only shows 20 hours on time. In all original box and material.

Got excellent since there were no pickup available around but it is shipped. Did not risk. Got the same with your fair tho. Covered trackpad, wrapped charger etc. Full original box etc. It shows 3 mons of Gamepass as a gift too on the store.

I use HWINFO64, which gives you more information than you'd ever want, and look specifically at the NVMe drive properties, where it will show you useful info like total bytes read/written to the SSD, the number of unexpected restarts, power cycles and total time on. Floor demo units will typically have huge power on times, but not a lot of data written or power cycles.
Bought this at Best Buy nine months ago and it is a very nice laptop. I am a Linux user, have gamed a bit, ran AI locally, coded for work, and watched a lot of shows with it. I love the design, AMD CPU/NPU/iGPU, fast LPDDR5, and screen.

It seems to be a slow one as far as modern cards go and I doubt it will run any games all that nicely.
Maybe if you run some ai models on your laptop it might be nice?
"run any games" is hard to define.
