The real deal here is the Open Box Excellent for $783. I have this laptop and it's great. You won't get a thinner, lighter 16" laptop, and the display is beautiful. No complaints.
The Zenbook S 16 stands out as a thin, light 16 inch laptop with a gorgeous 120 hertz OLED touch display, strong Ryzen AI performance, and useful ports like USB A and HDMI. It handles productivity, media, coding, and even light gaming well, with fast login through Windows Hello and a solid keyboard and touchpad. Heat and fan noise are the main concern, especially under heavier loads, though firmware updates and lower power settings have helped some units run cooler and quieter. Open box condition varies a lot, so packaging, wear, and SSD usage are worth checking closely. A strong all around Windows alternative if OLED and portability matter most.
People who prioritize a vivid OLED screen for movies and reading, because the 120Hz 3K panel is repeatedly described as beautiful and eye-catching.
Mobile professionals wanting a thin 16-inch work laptop, because it stays fast for productivity, web, and media while remaining comfortable at lower power.
Mostly stationary buyers needing a desktop-replacement laptop, because it is thin enough for the couch yet still feels solid and handles heavy multitasking well.
Gamers wanting sustained high-performance play, because the slim chassis can throttle under power-hungry workloads and the integrated graphics are only modest.
Use HWiNFO64 or CrystalDiskInfo to inspect the NVMe drive's total time on, power cycles, and bytes written. Very high power-on hours or extreme power-cycle counts can indicate a floor model or unusually heavy prior use.
For browsing, media, and productivity, it can run comfortably and often stays quiet, especially after firmware updates and with MyASUS set away from the highest performance mode. Heat and fan noise can still show up with gaming or other power-hungry workloads, where throttling is more likely.
Condition varies a lot: some open-box units arrive essentially new with original packaging and low SSD hours, while others come dirty, scratched, missing the original box, or even with loose panels and damaged lids. Store pickup seems safer than shipped open-box, and checking the unit in-store before leaving helps.
No, it uses integrated graphics rather than a dedicated GPU. It can handle light gaming and integrated-graphics workloads well, but demanding games may be limited by the slim chassis and power limits.
The 16-inch 120Hz 3K OLED touch display is repeatedly described as beautiful and eye-candy, with strong preference over standard IPS panels for content viewing. One concern raised is a possible screen-door effect, but other owners report not noticing anything weird on the screen.
Bought one Open box excellent for $780 pre-tax to upgrade from my HP Envy x360. Hoping the condition is actually what it says it is, as i tried open box before and got a dented laptop with a slightly splitting screen
Update: Got it, overall actually pretty solid with minimal cosmetic issues, plastic wrap still on the screen. However the SSD on cystraldisk shows 170TB written and a power on time of 241 days, for a only 1yr old machine? Almost certainly a display model right? I kind of want to return it for the SSD alone but the sale just ended and i know bestbuy won't exchange the laptop for another open box without charging me the difference. SSD spec sheet says its designed to do at least 300TBW and I dont plan on storing anything important as I host my own file server and put important stuff on there so I might just wait out and buy a 1TB SSD in the future if prices drop.

Yikes! Pretty sure the floor demo models I've received have a high "read" stat, but barely nothing is written to the drives when in "demo" mode, so that seems odd. The other weird thing is, if it belonged to an original owner, BB has a maximum 60 day return policy (for Total members). How could a laptop with 241 days be in stock for sale? You sure it was 241 days and not hours?
Try HWINFO64 and look at the drive info there and see if it aligns with CrystalDiskInfo. You could just buy another 1TB SSD somewhere and clone the drive to a new SSD and be done with it. Otherwise, 170TBW is a ridiculous amount of data to be written.

Yup it is in fact 241 days, HWinfo also reports the same. 170TB written. Battery has about 5% degredation too but even I am fine with that. Really on the edge on if i should return, i am gonna contact BestBuy to inquire what the laptops warranty is. if it is not close to the full year I guess ill be returning it cuz i cant have BOTH no warranty + bad SSD.

Unfortunately, with BestBuy and open-box ASUS product, you get whatever is left of the 1 YR ASUS warranty as the manufacturers warranty and after that for the 1YR BB warranty, if it breaks, there is a deductible based on your purchase price to fix it (for example, for a $780 laptop, it may be $79). It's very sketchy and one of the things I dislike about ASUS. BestBuy says that is disclosed SOMEWHERE when you buy it, but if it is, it certainly isn't made obvious. So basically, you do not get free repair for a year when you buy open box ASUS. I pay to be a Total Member and get 2 YR BB warranty and even then they still charge me the service fee after the ASUS manufacturer warranty.

Based on online research, this laptop has been prone to many major issues like touch screen stops working and display goes dead (for some folks it happened after 3-4 weeks of purchase while for some others it happened at the end of warranty period), only few reported keys breaking on the keyboard, some experienced noises. Overheating is quite common for too many but for my usage I have not experienced it.
ASUS warranty has been the worst experience for the most while only a few were able to get display replaced under warranty while others were asked to pay $800 to get it replaced. Most people call ASUS as the worst customer support.
I am still in the return window and seriously considering the return. What is your experience after buying it and did you check the reviews/issues for it online, what are your thoughts?

I am 4 days within the return window and decided this is a long term keeper.
I've had two laptops the last 10years which both surprisingly still work after heavy wear and tear as I was in school at that time.
This is the third Asus laptop I've had in the last 14months. Budget around 1k for upper mid specs.
First Asus: ProArt PZ13. I really liked this laptop, bought openbox good and it was in excellent condition. One night standard shutdown plugged in, the next day it was burning hot to touch(fire risk). Touchscreen stopped working, started lagging hard, literally fried. Bestbuy warranty'd for repair came back exactly the same but got full refund
Second one Asus: Zenbook 14 OLED Ultra 9 brand new; immediately the screen autofocus was driving me crazy. Its not a flicker per say but it will auto-adjust the brightness. Especially unbearable in night mode. Returned.
This is the third Asus: No screen issue. Battery life surprisingly good. Was scared of white but its a light silver aluminum matte finish: no fingerprints. Design has quiet luxury vibes. Weighs the same as my Dell 13.3 Inspiron. Made me realize I don't need a portable 13.3" screen anymore as I'm out of school. Its thin and light enough to take on the go. Good on my lap for couch surfing and perfect as a desktop replacement on the kitchen table.
Compared to my last two laptops, this one will be treated the best. Mainly stationary and occasionally on the couch. I've an extra year of warranty with AMEX.
Got this for 856 open box to replace the old work laptop I was using. I would consider my self a power user. Chrome, Large excel, large PDF files. Photopea online photo shop editing, all with cs2 running in the background. IT runs likea champ. No issues yet. The screen is beautiful, the computer is feels solid and is incredibly thin. I use the box it came with as my computer case when in my backapack. Just cut a groove for the mouse usb dongle. Very good purchase. Thank you! The open box is already back up to $1200. KILLER DEAL
