The real deal here is the Open Box Excellent for $783. I have this laptop and it's great. You won't get a thinner, lighter 16" laptop, and the display is beautiful. No complaints.
The Zenbook S 16 stands out as a thin, light 16 inch laptop with a gorgeous 120 hertz OLED touch display, strong Ryzen AI performance, and useful ports like USB A and HDMI. It handles productivity, media, coding, and even light gaming well, with fast login through Windows Hello and a solid keyboard and touchpad. Heat and fan noise are the main concern, especially under heavier loads, though firmware updates and lower power settings have helped some units run cooler and quieter. Open box condition varies a lot, so packaging, wear, and SSD usage are worth checking closely. A strong all around Windows alternative if OLED and portability matter most.
People who prioritize a vivid OLED screen for movies and reading, because the 120Hz 3K panel is repeatedly described as beautiful and eye-catching.
Mobile professionals wanting a thin 16-inch work laptop, because it stays fast for productivity, web, and media while remaining comfortable at lower power.
Mostly stationary buyers needing a desktop-replacement laptop, because it is thin enough for the couch yet still feels solid and handles heavy multitasking well.
Gamers wanting sustained high-performance play, because the slim chassis can throttle under power-hungry workloads and the integrated graphics are only modest.
Use HWiNFO64 or CrystalDiskInfo to inspect the NVMe drive's total time on, power cycles, and bytes written. Very high power-on hours or extreme power-cycle counts can indicate a floor model or unusually heavy prior use.
For browsing, media, and productivity, it can run comfortably and often stays quiet, especially after firmware updates and with MyASUS set away from the highest performance mode. Heat and fan noise can still show up with gaming or other power-hungry workloads, where throttling is more likely.
Condition varies a lot: some open-box units arrive essentially new with original packaging and low SSD hours, while others come dirty, scratched, missing the original box, or even with loose panels and damaged lids. Store pickup seems safer than shipped open-box, and checking the unit in-store before leaving helps.
No, it uses integrated graphics rather than a dedicated GPU. It can handle light gaming and integrated-graphics workloads well, but demanding games may be limited by the slim chassis and power limits.
The 16-inch 120Hz 3K OLED touch display is repeatedly described as beautiful and eye-candy, with strong preference over standard IPS panels for content viewing. One concern raised is a possible screen-door effect, but other owners report not noticing anything weird on the screen.
On the ASUS Zenbook S 16, the 3D Mark score for Time Spy was 3486 (Graphics=3135 and CPU=9581).
I will fire up my Lenovo and load that up next and will repost here.
I decided to pick up an open box for $750 +tax and it is definitely a beautiful machine. I also ran Time Spy under max performance mode and latest bios and only got 3120 (2791 Graphics 9431 CPU) which is a little disappointing, even compared to yours. The 880m in other laptops can push to 3800 total score. I'm going to keep it at least a week and see how it feels day to day.

Was the laptop plugged in? Not sure why the difference, but 10% usually isn't noticeable.

Yeah it was plugged in. I actually noticed some Windows services running and taking a steady CPU drain plus some RAM so I investigated and it was all the CoPilot AI stuff. I found a little utility on Reddit that removed all that junk and now the laptop is considerably cooler, quieter, and increased the Time Spy score to 3391 which I'm happier with.

I did quit the CoPilot apps that were running in the system tray also. Enjoy!
tried my hand at a good condition, and omg its such a beautiful laptop! unfortunately the good condition didnt come with the original box, the bottom pannel is loose, screws not screwed all the way in, scratches and sticker stains in the bottom? and a hairline crack on one of the screws. Returned it
but omg its am amazing looking laptop, might even be worth new at 1k

I am running an Acer Nitro 17 gaming laptop; only my GPU is kind of going to waste because I game on my PS5 and Series X 99% of the time 🤣if my Nitro failed me, I guess I would just go for a "work" laptop like this with a fire OLED display instead of wasting money on another GPU I don't use. An open-box deal here does seem great.

I got an OB excellent. Original box may not be a big deal but what you described is not even fair. It sounds like the chassis have been tempered with so should be returned to factory not to the shelf. Got it for the wife and she liked a lot.

Is it O&O Shutup to clean OS or another tool? Also G-Helper is recommended for Asus laptops. I got the laptop and just did the initial setup. Will customize and looking forward to optimize in terms of temps, fan etc.

My Windows install seemed pretty clean with no bloat. For Copilot I used a script called RemoveWindowsAI which you can find on Github or Reddit.

Actually it seems this way. There is "MyAsus" which actually seems not bad, even nice, as a single command center for updates and some settings. May delete it at some point but will keep it now.

Bought this in December. For my use (browsing and media), i occasionally see overheating but it's bearable. My only complaint is one dead pixel on the display which is annoying. Other than that, love this laptop!
I feel duped. I just bought this and first use has the laptop overheating already. Ugh.

The OLED display delivers a gorgeous look for media browsing and content consumption.
Open-box units can arrive essentially new with original packaging and minimal SSD usage.
The laptop can stay comfortable for productivity and web media workloads at around 18W.
Firmware updates can reduce CPU temperatures and make fan noise less distracting over time.
Some units show overheating or first-use heat issues that can lead to returns.
Open-box condition can be overstated when packaging is a friction sleeve without original box materials.
Integrated graphics limit gaming expectations and make "run any games" hard to define.
Open-box warranty coverage can be reduced to remaining ASUS coverage plus Best Buy service fees.
