According to the specs, it should. But I have one, regulated to the dust bin, and in real use in doesn't.

Well at worst it could cut half way through then flip over to cut the other half? Care to elaborate on why you gave up on this mini saw?

What I read from internet is 7 1/2" circular saw is recommended for 2"x4" lumber especially treated wood like ground contact ones.

Check the depth setting knob. Last week I replaced the garage door jamb and even my Ryobi 4 1/2 went through 2x8.

Yes, you would have to flip over and cut from other side. I snagged a good deal on a Ridgid brushless 6.5" circular saw that cuts 2 x 4 with ease.
