The Gold was hot garbage after the $325 hike so I can imagine they are scrambling to provide some value back. I just closed mine and told them to get real. They threatened me with a clawback for not keeping open for 365 days...Amex is trash

They absolutely will clawback the sign up bonus if you closed the card before your first year anniversary.

This is tangential but I also closed my Gold after they refused to pay out the sign up bonus "because I only did purchases for the bonus and then stopped using it".
But yeah it's the trend these days to lower the value for money for these cards, same with the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

What is wrong with CSR? I know it is $800 fee now. But the $300 travel credit is guaranteed. I make good use the doordash and instacart and Lyft credit. Apple tv is good too. The edit $500 credit is a bit hit and miss but we did manage to use it in a stopover 2day trip to Japan. The dining credit is also great. Recently Chase added locations outside NYC so we made good use of it. The IHG platinum status is also useful.
Definitely worth more than $800 fee. If it is worth $2000 or $3000 like chase claimed is debateable.

If your subscription ends soon, see if you can stack this with a discounted standard plan, YMMV of course, I posted about that here: https://slickdeals.net/f/19187422-hbo-max-standard-plan-for-145-year-40-off-offer-after-cancelling-ymmv
