This is the brushed motor version. Still not a bad price. Generally the brushless motor version is much faster and the motor lasts longer.

Agreed. It's tempting to buy this and drop a brushless system in it. But the brushless version goes on sale from time to time. Well made rig that's very fun.

These brushed motors are apparently dogshit. Look it up. Every negative review says the motors died VERY early on.

Brushed motors burning through their brushes quickly has been a thing for as long as R/C and model cars/trains/planes/etc. have used electric motors -- we're probably approaching a century now. It's just the nature of the beast given how hard the motors are pushed.

With the better quality brushed motors you can easily replace the brushes and replacements are readily available, though I have no idea if this is such a motor or not.

And yes, this is a big reason why brushless motors are so much better -- as long as they don't get too hot, they'll last until the bearings wear out. (Other reasons: more power, more efficient, no ozone or burned brush smell.)

But yeah, if you want a hobby-grade R/C car in 2026, pay a little extra and get one with a brushless motor. (And the same goes for power tools.)
