Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:
The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date.
In summary, same device available via:
Metro for $65 ... auto unlocks in 365 days, continuing the service after 1st month/initial payment not required
Total Wireless for $40 ... will never unlock unless paid for 1 whole year of service (which is not worth - better use case is to use it as wifi only or cheaper service via rebranding to tracfone etc, ymmv)
Community Reviews
This is a Moto G Stylus 2025 bundle that stands out as a strong Wi Fi only or Verizon value brand phone, with praise for its snappy performance, bright 120Hz OLED screen, big battery, stylus, and solid gaming or emulation use. It also works well as a spare, kids, or media device, and some setups have been used on Tracfone, Visible, or other Verizon family SIMs. The main catch is the lock, since Total Wireless service is tied to unlocking and newer activations are described as needing 365 days of paid and active service. That makes it most appealing if you plan to keep it on Total Wireless or use it without caring about full unlock later.
The phone can be used as a Wi‑Fi device even if it never unlocks.
The bundled plan can count as paid service for unlocking when the activation is set up correctly.
The deal can work well for Verizon MVNO users who need a spare replacement device.
The phone supports tablet-like use, including Airplane Mode to reduce tower hunting and battery drain.
Unlocking requires about a full year of paid and active service, which can make the deal a lock-in.
Unlock timing can be affected by service transfers, and transferred service may not count toward paid-service requirements.
Unlock eligibility and rebranding steps can require Total Wireless or TracFone support, and DIY rebranding may not be possible.
Checkout, delivery, and customer-service issues can create friction, including order rejections and mis-delivery disputes.

I logged into my Total Wireless account. My previous 3 line plan was $45 a month, and now the next payment will be $77 a month for 4 lines. Does anyone know when I can safely cancel this line so that I can have my $45/month plan back?

It used to work, but since last February I believe, they changed the policy

I filed a complaint with BBB and eventually got my refund back.
Although I do have a question: can I disconnect it from my account after that month online or do I need to speak to a rep? When I give away/sell phones I prefer they aren't linked to my account in any way.
