We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:
The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date.
In summary, same device available via:
Metro for $65 ... auto unlocks in 365 days, continuing the service after 1st month/initial payment not required
Total Wireless for $40 ... will never unlock unless paid for 1 whole year of service (which is not worth - better use case is to use it as wifi only or cheaper service via rebranding to tracfone etc, ymmv)

I logged into my Total Wireless account. My previous 3 line plan was $45 a month, and now the next payment will be $77 a month for 4 lines. Does anyone know when I can safely cancel this line so that I can have my $45/month plan back?

It used to work, but since last February I believe, they changed the policy

I filed a complaint with BBB and eventually got my refund back.
Although I do have a question: can I disconnect it from my account after that month online or do I need to speak to a rep? When I give away/sell phones I prefer they aren't linked to my account in any way.
