These are great entry level pellet smokers. the Traeger fire box is good, but you need to keep it clean, because you will get flame outs if you don't. Someone should build an access hatch on these to help with that.

Agree, good deal on a decent smoker. Not the best quality but better than the Masterbuilt and Pit Boss ones I had previously. If you have an Ace Hardware nearby, you could try to price match as they offer free setup and delivery. It could save you some time and frustration building it up on your own.

Bought this last week and smoked some ribs and salmon over the holiday weekend. Came out great! Pretty easy to set it and forget it, especially with temperature probes that connect to a phone app.

I've got a Louisiana pellet grill from Costco (SL700, I think) that I cannot find parts for and is rusting out anyways. It has two temp probes (that I don't use, honestly), digital temperature controls, no smoke stack, no Wi-Fi. I have a Thermoworks Smoke and Wi-Fi bridget that I use to monitor the smoker. I've been happy with the Louisiana, but since I can't find new parts (main grates, flame broiler main and slider), I need to get something new. The control panel of this Traeger looks like a downgrade to what I've had, but someone above mentioned Wi-Fi? Is that right? The product description doesn't mention it and the Q&A says it doesn't. The size/capacity looks similar. Would I be unhappy with this Traeger? (I love a deal, but love smoked meats even more.)

Bought a similar model at Costco a few years back. We spent about $500 and that was a deal back then. At this price, it's a no brainer. They're pretty dummy proof and everything comes out pretty damn good unless you really screw something up. I've done ribs, turkey, pork loin, burgers, hot dogs, sausage, chicken, duck, just about everything on it. I've felt no need to upgrade either - this is all I need, and I can't imagine ever needing the bigger models or more bells and whistles.

Honestly, this would be a step down from what you have. This would be more comparable: https://www.costco.com/p/-/traege...?langId=-1.
Note there is no built-in Wifi on this Pro 22 which is why I use a ThermoMaven G1. If I had to purchase a replacement, I would check out RecTeq's

My brother in law has a Traeger. I bought a pit boss. The pit boss works fine and it's well built, but the Traeger gives more smoke without raising the cooking temp. I wish I had bought a traeger.

I moved on from an OG Traeger to a pit boss and noticed the same thing. Buy a smoke tube and some wood chips of your choice and use that to supplement.

You dont want the built in wifi crap anyways. The app fails and the whole machine is brick.

You cant ever trust the built in thermometers. You are better off with a thermomaven to keep track of your cooks.

Ive had a pro22 for years... still chugging along. If you have issues they are simple and cheap to fix (fan/auger/hot rod are all cheap and readily available)

Same here! Smoked two racks for the first time on Monday. Turned out pretty good! Better than a lot of restaurants tbh

Thinking of purchasing. Are there DIY mods that are recommended before using?

How do these hold up to the weather? Or should get a cover for it?

I have the WiFi Traeger and never have issues with the WiFi. Great for notifications when it's ready and great for adjusting temps while I am at work and I have something cooking all day.
