Inherently, this is job that's hard on the back, but the handle is long, so this helps. If blades/tines dig in on their own, you have to adjust the angle that they meet the ground - you're looking to something perpendicular to the ground. It is somewhat of both - if it catches on thick thatch, it requires more force to pull it out, if it is thinner, blades are pulling it out without issues.

Got this. Seems well made. The sectional handle takes the biggest criticism, saying it comes loose and needs tightening all the time, but I think I tightened it enough to work well. First pass, it dethatches well, leaving grass undamaged, but pulling out enough clippings. Good price for this

I have rocks in my yard from snow plows, if you ever want a motorized version try the Stihl Yard Boss with the rubber lawn sweeper attachment. Works very well, I have a lot of area to clear so a hand tool isn't a great option for me.

Have something similar. Works well to remove clippings and dead weeds/moss.

How's your back? Does it work in one pass or do you have to pass multiple times? Is the process dig in + pull then repeat or is it dig in once and pull until the end?

Solid ones are closer to the "original price" of this one.

finally figured out how to get the coupon code to appear and ordered. Thanks OP. I don't like the new change to SD where a lot of the deals just go straight to the site instead of this window. Makes it hard to see comments and coupon codes.

One section of mine just spins and spins as you tighten it. With these designs it's not like you can Just wrench them down once and expect them to remain secure. If I were doing a full pass on the entire lawn I'd probably just add some removable loctite.
Other than that it seems to work ok. Obviously not the highest quality item ever made but the head is sturdy, the handle is sturdy enough, and it seems to work decently well. I will add a side note it's only like $70 to rent a big automatic unit from HD for a few hours. Use case and all that.
