Many years ago, I upgraded my wife's cars inbuilt system with a Pioneer dual DIN system because of CarPlay. It cost me $500 just for the unit and so much more for all the harnesses, and adapters. To say nothing of the countless hours it took to figure out the wiring, and soldering and installation. In the end, everything worked, but it was impossible to make anything out in bright sunlight (screen tech at the time, combined with the angle it was at).

Eventually, I swapped back the factory system and put a cheapo wireless CarPlay system like this one. It's been running well for the last few years. It's a big screen with good resolution and does everything one would expect. It connects immediately, and most importantly, its extremely bright screen and angle/location of installation made it so one can make out stuff in bright sunlight. The backup camera is so much better than the in-built one in the car. Not only does it have higher resolution, it seems to adapt better to varying light conditions. And if the unit ever fails, it's not that expensive to replace. I just have to swap out the head unit without wiring anything. Yes, it looks ugly compared to an in-built system, but the trade-off is worth it.

Don't worry about the brand. I went crazy researching various options in the market when I bought one for my wife. There are only a few models in the market and various 'companies' are just selling the same rebadged variant. Many of the 'companies' play fast and loose with the claimed specs. Don't fall for that. Look at various variants on Amazon, and if the picture is the same for a product from another company, you're buying the same product. The specs will be the same. Pricing varies from vendor to vendor based on reviews. If somebody's listing gets a lot of reviews their price will creep up. The same product form another vendor might be cheaper if they just listed it. You get the idea.

Meh. I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FLDK5G4P a few weeks ago when it's 11 inch cousin was featured on the front page. It has auto dimming and a dash cam. $6 more with coupon for a dash cam seems a no brainer. My biggest complaint is lack of physical buttons, so I left my old bluetooth FM transmitter in and can still use it to play/pause/forward/rewind. No matter what you do, Android Auto takes precedence for audio - earbuds etc won't work when it's on.

Have you tried aux? I'm wondering if it is a better sound. Also. Can multiple phones connect to that unit at the same time or does it have multiple phones' profiles?
Does your have USB-C for power?
Thanks

This may have to do with the lack of software updates for this unit. I bought it last year and used it with a pixel 6 and it worked flawlessly. Since then i upgraded to apixel 8 and it disconnects randomly for 20 seconds or so every few minutes. I'm guessing Android auto had been updated but no new unit software is available from this manufacturer. If avoid this unless you have older phones.

The one you linked has pretty horrible reviews.. I do like the dash cam though..

So with these screens, can you make the audio come from the regular car speakers?

I got this on the last deal for a similar unit from this brand and while I want to love it, my galaxy s25 periodically disconnects from it mid route. It's super frustrating and even dangerous.

I contacted support and their fix was to install some new app on my phone that just says it's fixed. I haven't driven much since but I'll try to report back on whether or not it worked.

These things are cheaply made and dont last long.. i have one of these chinese clones from an unpronouncable name. The good part is , i got a replacement unit when i complained to their customer service, in exchange for removing negative reviews.

I bought the same thing, I set the audio output to Bluetooth and it still connects to my car stereos bluetooth for media and calls.

I'm still rocking a 7-8" cheapo Nexpow unit from Walmart I got for $27 from 2 years ago. There are some spots in my city that'll drop the phone-to-unit connection likely due to interference, but otherwise absolutely zero issues with it mounted on a dash of an ancient '06 4Runner that sits in Texas sun. I do use a windshield sun shade during summer, but who in their right mind in TX doesn't?

download EveLink app from app store and there will be something about android auto fix, install it. I have not noticed disconnects now. I have an older LAMTTO unit
