I went in to check out and maybe buy one of these three or four months ago and finally ascertained that these were former in-store display units. Upon checking the serial number on the one that they had it was determined that it had an in-service date three years prior, so it had been on at least 18hrs/day (probably 24) for well over a thousand days. For me that was a no-go, though I'm sure the panel had a lot of years left in it I just didn't feel like taking the chance.

it's not a gaming monitor, it's a work monitor with great color and TB5.

That's not even remotely in the same class of displays. It's not 4k, let alone 5k.

Community Reviews

The Apple Studio Display is a 27 inch 5K Retina work monitor that shines for Mac and creative use, with bright output, excellent color, strong speakers, and a clean all in one setup with built in webcam, mic, and Thunderbolt power delivery. It is praised for graphic design, videography, film editing, and content creation, where the sharp 5K panel and factory color tuning stand out. The main cautions are its 60Hz limit, no HDR, and a webcam that is widely criticized. Open box Fair units also arrive with missing cables, scratches, or cracks, so condition and remaining warranty deserve close checking.

  • The Studio Display works well as a work monitor with great color and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity.

  • The integrated power adapter and Thunderbolt power simplify a clean single-panel setup for laptop work.

    clive1027

  • The built-in webcam, speaker, and mic support Zoom calls without needing extra peripherals.

    clive1027

  • The display can deliver strong brightness and excellent color reproduction for graphic design and videography.

  • Open-box "Fair" listings can mismatch actual condition, including cracked glass or a cracked corner on arrival.

    soulfreshPenguinHackernomar116

  • Open-box "Fair" units may be former in-store display hardware with long daily usage hours and limited swap flexibility for VESA needs.

    drdiabolocoTweak155

  • The webcam quality is described as utter garbage, which can make the display hard to justify for video calls.

    pgzero

  • Open-box "Fair" units may arrive with larger dents or scratches and may be missing parts, accessories, or packaging.

There is one Fair condition near me, however I really need the VESA mount version and these are not easily swappable. Curious what kind of quality people receive if they go for it.

Works like new. Restored to factory settings. May have larger dents or scratches. May be missing parts, accessories, or packaging.

Hmm not sure I want to risk it.

If you have a Mac yes. They're the second best monitor you can have (newest being the first)
