L2B, we pay for Mini's books as well even though she's just in HS. I've learned to get her books used off Amazon. We were paying $400-$500 in books and they weren't even all new when we went through the school bookstore. I've had great luck with sellers with super fast shipping.
I don't know if this helps but I use a site called www.fetchbook.info to find lowest prices on my books. It even searches ebay in addition to 145 other book stores/chains. I saved about 75% some terms on my law books.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Wave

interesting morning here.

and by interesting i mean, Ranting

1. internet goes out while I am in the middle of sending out an email message. lose the whole long important business message.
2. try to call comcast. the phone is out. great.
3. go to use cell - battery is dead because a member of the tribe conveniently took away my charging cord after destroying theirs (apparently telling someone every single day that they're going to destroy their cord - if they keep the phone plugged in to the wall and then pull it on to the bed - is all annoying nagging stuff, until of course the cord falls apart and then it's an aha moment).
4. find the destroyed cord and physically hold it for 30 mins to get a charge on the phone and call comcast.
5. they get me to power cycle the router, and then power cycle the modem and despite my protestations, make me RESET BOTH. i lose my whole network Faint but still get no internet connection Head Bang
6. they inform me there appears to be an outage and it'll be a few hours. great.
7. try to print a bunch of stuff sitting in the printer queue for pressing errands. figured i'll go take care of those as will other members of the clan. guess what? yeah, i lost my network so computer can't talk to printer.
8. spend 45 mins. recreate the whole network. does nothing. modem reset means it's all wiped out and sans a home internet connection i can't download the new firmware into the router, or put in all the settings. so, no printing. which means all the work that was planned for today is now on hold.

are we having fun yet? cos this gets better.

9. i'm sitting on the desk chair trying to enter the network info into the printer and i nearly fall off. huh? check why - someone here has been rocking the chair, so that the screws on the metal plate under the seat have come loose. they almost fell out in my hand. can't get under the chair in current injured state, so this will have to wait till later in the day for someone else to fix. result - desk chair out of commission.

10. go to fix the printer stuff and a careless clan member has left out a tub of this highly fragranced stuff that gives me major migraines. no idea it was there until i started to smell it and next thing you know - bam! migraine #7

11. darling pcp called in an rx for imitrex while on vacay. pharmacist calls me to say it's not going through on blue cross. um what? my insurance number has changed - they didn't send me the new card yet but canceled the old one. how fantabulous.

and it's not even 10:30 am yet. somebody please give me a barrel of vodka and a neanderthal club to knock myself out senseless. Bonk

oh and i get a message from sis: when i see you this afternoon i'm going to be starving, because i haven't had any breakfast today. uh-huh. i'm going to make sure not to eat anything unhealthy outside so i can eat when i see you because i'll be starving.
so i suppose that means i'm making lunch. laugh out loud
then she continues walking into a subway tunnel while asking me questions about printing coupons. and keeps saying what? i can't hear you, you're breaking up.
no kidding. you're walking farther and father and farther underground. as in away from a cell signal.

did the earthquake just scramble everyone's minds?

Oh well, been up since 7 am.. gonna drink another cup of coffee and get busy. dropped DD at school at 8:15.. she has a long day today because of an afternoon lab class.. Won't be done til almost 4.. but, then she is done for the week !
l2b, I've had a yard sale in temps like that! Just stay in the shade, stay hydrated, and keep it short. Start early, end early. I have had fairly great success doing this. nod

But who doesn't like breakfast for dinner?!?! Cooked up a little ham to go with it and called it dinner!

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/waff...etail.aspx

I subbed out regular milk with coconut milk. They were soooooooo light and fluffy!

I was thinking flax but apparently it raises estrogen levels...not a good thing for a little boy. laugh out loud
I wanted to say - I am ALWAYS game for breakfast waffles ANYTIME of the day ... can you believe that one of my kiddos hates all breakfast food? So I read your question and thought - my daughter! LOL The rest of my kiddos like breakfast though - so majority rules and we have brekkies for dinner sometimes Smilie

I like the recipe thanks! I won't sub the coconut milk as I am allegic to coconut - but I will try them anyway -they look good!

I did want to pass along to you that we studied estrogen in food in my food science courses at UW and the amount of estrogen passed to a human through consumtion of flax or soy is TINY and by many sources exaggerated. Flax is an excellent source - for all members of your fam - I wouldn't have any qualms about your lil guy having it. Just my opinion - but wanted to pass it along as it was one of the subjects we studied.

got any place where you can photocopy for free/cheap? that's what we did. just photocopy and a put in a binder. and return the new one unused within the return period.
So remember when said we were twins?????? OMG I thought I was the only one who did this - stood there with texts - copied so that 2 pages fit on one copied page - WAYYYYYYYY cheaper than a text. It was all B&W because color was too costly - but if I needed to see the pics in color for some reason I could always ask a neighbor in class or stop by the prof's office -- didn't happen often because there was always the internet as backup for pics/support to material in the text. Anyway - I totally laughed when I read your comment!

PS - I hope that things get sorted out! I am so sorry about your morning!!!!! HUGS HUGS HUGS HUGS

Yeah, with homeschooling for years, I have had to buy all of my kids books too. I have been very fortunate with getting used books from the bay lots of times.
Have you ever checked out Vegsource [vegsource.com]? They have really nice hs buy/sell/trade boards. I bought and sold quite a few things on there way back when. If it's anything like it used to be though, if you are looking for something and find, buy it. It won't last long.

Good Afternoon Creatures!

Summer is winding down..yeah! Back to school in 2 weeks. I actually can't wait. I would like to get back to shopping and posting on a more reg. basis. Haven't been to RA in weeks and weeks. DH is doing some quick T trips, but nothing exciting at all. Our last T excitement was when we scored the clearance microwave a few weeks back. My veggies are doing okay but not great. We have had to much rain. We have a potential hurricane coming and I think that will end my veggie season.

GT..I still haven't gotten my doggie toys yet. May be today?!

awwwww poor baby. that sucks.
thrift, does doc think he is lactose intolerant and that's the dairy reaction or is it something else (hormones in non-organic dairy, antibiotics in non-organic dairy, reaction to corn/soy feed etc ?)
if he's lactose intolerant, maybe doc can say if he can be given some lactase as a precautionary thing each day, so that in case something sneaks in like this, he doesn't suffer?
sending prayers and hugs his way.

textbooks: it's an awesome thing these days that one can buy used textbooks off the marketplace as opposed to having to pay the huge markups in hs/college campus bookstores. that being said, we've had great luck with
a) borrowing the books from the library for the entire semester - free bounce
b) renting the books from a textbook rental service, which ends significantly cheaper than buying used. and as a plus, some of the sites let you swap text books you have for ones you need to buy. so it's a good way to get value on used textbooks.

too bad none of these buying/renting options existed when i went to college. oh the money i paid the campus bookstore. TOTAL RACKET.
Baby & JJ aren't lactose intolerant. Milk/Soy Protein intolerant. Their little guts can't handle the protein in either. Which reminds me, Culturelle is B1G1 @ Wags this week!

:scratchingmyhead: They didn't go to the basement. They were sent outside. laugh out loud Hubby was far more shook up than I thought he would be. His building is huge and solid (think industrial/military) and during the quake, the floors were actually shaking and rattling. Buildings out here and in DC are not built to withstand earthquakes, and many of the ones in DC are super old. Well, *American* super old, not *European* super old. Wink Anyway, here's hoping that's the one and only for the next 100 years!
I blame it on sleep deprivation. Hide Apparently I am so tired that posts just run together!

Slow, I am sure there has to be wasps living in the grass, the landscapers mow so long though, not sure how to find the holes. I sat out watching them for about 45 min while pushing my son on the swing and could never see them going back to one spot, they must be all over, there are so many now my kids won't even play in the backyard at all Frown
And the landscaper doesn't notice, when he mows he is on some kind of super charged and really fast mower machine thing that he stands on. They do the whole street/block as we all have the same landlord.

GG, sorry about the migraines, hope you get everything back up & running soon, sounds like a huge headache for sure. And I still really hate Comcast/infinity!!!!!!

Dpags, we are thinking that we will either move to Henderson, NV how is that for dry and warm? I love the dry warm weather & no winter there. We are also considering CA near Disneyland which only cuz DH will have lots of work or maybe Mesquite, NV. Colorado is also a possibility...

L2sm, hugs, best wishes on the pregnancy. Hope everything is good.

.
Wasps (if they are true wasps and depending on what type of wasp) are creatures of habit. Everyday around 2:00 PM and then again at 4:00 PM they go back home. It is easy to locate their nest based upon this. Once you find the nest you will need to watch it to find the holes. If you decide to kill them yourself..you can use a window screen to put over the holes so when they come out they can't get you.

You can tell what kind of wasp or yellow jacket (which is different then a wasp) it is by the markings on it's back. Typically nest will be huge this time of year. I am not sure where you live and if you have a winter. If you do have a winter and you don't get to killing the bees, they will die off after 3 consecutive nights of 32 degrees or below. Only a few will fly away to overwinter (hibernate) to become queens next summer.

Do not bother to try and plug up the hole without killing them. They will find another way out. They are smart little creatures.

If you do decide to kill them do so after dusk when they will be in their nest and you will get em all. Do not shine a flash light into or on the hole. They will respond aggressively. If you need to use a flash light, use a red light or put red cellophane over the light. Why red, because wasps cannot see the color red.

Huh, Heidi's came really fast -- just a few days. I think I'd check up on it.

Stop talking about fall. After fall -- a very short fall here -- comes winter... snow, ice, freezing temps for months on end. I am not looking forward to it. Although, I don't know why I really care, it's not like I do anything anyway. Other than haul out the snow blower and shoot snow all over.

I usually like winter and can't wait for it to arrive, however, this summer has been the mildest we have ever had. We are just now in the upper 90's and our first triple digit day *might* be this week. Usually we're long into the triple digits by now. I also don't have a nice winter wardrobe and I hate wearing shoes. Can't wear sandals in the snow, well you can, but you look stupid!
