Same for all employees in my company and in my previous job it was the same way too.

If you die on the job or die to AD&D, you get double the amount. SCORE!

My company pays for some paltry amount--I think it may be $20,000 and we can purchase additional coverage beyond that which I choose not to do.

Why exactly should I spend any money on life insurance? Dontknow
I can pay your premiums for a 20 yr term life if you promise to make me the sole beneficiary Woot

Absolutely! I don't know why anyone wouldn't have life insurance. Unlike the possibility of something happening to your home or auto, you are going to die eventually.

We currently have $400,000 on DH, half is tied to his job, the other half we pay. We have $200,000 on me, none tied to my job, and $50,000 on DS.

We will probably be increasing those amounts by a fair amount in the next five years or so.

I would rather have the money that I can use right now than future money that I will never be able to spend.

That's very selfish. You should get life insurance and make your ex-wife the sole beneficiary.

Well I don't know about your personal situation, but I have people in my life that I care for very much, people that depend on me and my income, people that would suffer a great deal if I died and left them with nothing.

I choose to use a small portion of the money I have now to make certain that if something happens to me, they'll have one less thing they need to worry about.

I have a big policy taken out on her. After a few more years I probably wouldn't still be considered the number one suspect Cool

I got it, I got it.

Iaaaiws, take out a LARGE life insurance policy on yourself, and make your ex-wife the sole beneficiary.

THEN, jump off a bridge...

It's a win-win situation!

Fark 'em. They need to be tough to survive.

Just kidding laugh out loud

I just don't have anybody that needs a free ride in the event of my death. Should that change in the future I will rethink the whole life insurance thing.

No, I'm just saying I have people that depend on me - AFAIK, he's single with no kids, so he obviously wouldn't need that kind of life insurance since he has no one to support.

I do think everyone should at least have some life insurance to cover final expenses. It would be pretty awful to burden your family and make them pay several thousand dollars out of pocket if something should happen.
