So, tell me this. When we buy a $1 grocery item and use a $1 TQ does it reduce our taxable total buy $1 since we don't have a tax on food?
Good question about the tax reduction since there is no tax on food... we do pay sales tax on food here so I can't answer that one.

And yeah I know, no self control. It's hard to buy Christmas gifts too far in advance for the kids because I know they will want them, and it's so tempting to give them their gifts... Stick Out Tongue

Haven't checked yet to see if my Secret Santa person got her gift yet but she should have - mine still hasn't arrived so I'm still excitedly stalking the mailman Evil

Rachael - CONGRATS on raising a smart little one there! I don't know if I missed it - but can't wait to hear your birth story! We have been missing you HUGS HUGS HUGS to you and your fam!!! Hope we see more of you when you find the time!
I am such a loser - sorry it's taken me so long to try and catch up with you guys. I have been in baby la-la land over here. I never get on the computer except to make my family's calendars on Shutterfly for Christmas gifts then it's right back to la-la land laugh out loud Hope you are feeling better and you really didn't miss much of a birth story, I labored for 2 days and she wouldn't come out God's way. Cute little bugger though. hug

I totally get you, Boobs ruined my BF last year Teehee I am currently weaning #5. Out of 5 kids this is the first one I had to wean. Hi Rach! I was actually thinking about you yesterday! Glad to see you posting. Taking the baby out of the house is sometimes the only way to stay sane. My DS was born in November in Michigan...and he braved the cold weather A LOT.
I hear ya! We were running around like crazy before this cold weather hit, now we just snuggle on the couch and watch the world go by while we sit here getting nothing done laugh out loud

Quote from guybio :
rachael nice to see you back. Hope the little one is doing good.
Thanks so much! She is a beautiful little distraction. I wrote Christmas cards today one-handed all sloppy like and took 2 hour jaunts to the basement this week to wrap presents and they look like the kids did it but hey. they're done. LMAO

Quote from gt6mk31 :
Glad you two are doing well. And I see you are breaking that baby in right! Does he have bulls eyes on his diapers?
I should get some pictures of that when she starts crawling LOL

If it weren't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all hug Still thinking of you.

I skipped ahead (again) so I'm super sorry about that. Hoping to have more time to catch up again soon b/c I miss you guys.

Attached some babe pictures at the bottom since only some of you are on my FB.

They carry a few of them at Wal-Mart.

I would have expected the tax to be on $265.50 -- the cost of the item after the 10% coupon. GCs aren't taxed so I wouldn't expect tax on them BUT I wouldn't have expected the $65 gift card amount to come off my taxable amount.

Wait... I think I figured it out. It still doesn't make sense, really, but it kinda does. Ok, the gift cards were rung up -- $50 + $15, no sales tax on those. Then, they were rung off -- but that came off as a Target Coupon. All the register know is that it's TQ -- not that it's a TQ on a non-taxable item. I guess. I think.

So, tell me this. When we buy a $1 grocery item and use a $1 TQ does it reduce our taxable total buy $1 since we don't have a tax on food?
I have no clue about the tax on grocery items paired with TQ's....or when it comes to any sort of overage....or how in the heck their computer is so freaking sophisticated that it can figure all of this tax crap out but it took them so long to fix and figure out all of the q problems. Huh Oh wait, that had everything to do with Target not wanting to fix them laugh out loud

Those are some of my favorites.. I think you will like the creme brulee and chocolate donut Smilie
Maybe I need to try the german chocolate cake.. never saw that one drool I am not an eggnog person, so doubt I would like that one for myself.
What is winter carnival.. sounds interesting?

Haha SJM....no alcohol here *at all*. Have never had it, probably never will. DH was a complete alcoholic before we were married (probably would have died from it) and quit COLD TURKEY and never went back to it. Just like that. We will probably never have it in the house or even have a drink together for that reason alone, amongst others. The neuro docs also told me after my brain injury that I really did not need to be consuming alcohol because of its affect on the brain. Dontknow Was never a drinker anyway so I suppose it all works out LMAO

YES L2BAM, good idea wish we were all closer so we could have a 'flavor swap' of sorts bounce Didn't order any yet.....see, can't make a decision now!!

Tracy - have not tried ANY of those so definitely give reviews Wink
No alcohol here either. DH and I neither one drink.. I would say I never had it.. but I am pretty sure mom slipped it to us as a kid Wink

Wait.. you wrap stocking stuffers??? I just dump the crap in.. We do wrap alot of santa gifts though and a lady at my church told me sunday that she never had wrapped a single one of her kids gifts. I guess everyone must have their own traditions/ways.

We have always left alot of the santa gifts out.. when they were younger, most of the santa stuff was left out, but we wrapped a few gifts.. and then there were a few under the tree from "mom and dad"
Now that they gave gotten older and don't believe in santa (well accept the toddler now getting into it) we started wrapping all of the big kids gifts.. well, unless it was too big.. Like, a bike, drums, etc.. I like wrapping them because we get to enjoy the process longer. We all take turns opening and kinda spread it out over a little while.. besides, it is easier to hide gifts from them if they are wrapped.
But, this other lady told me she never wraps.. everything from santa is sitting out.. and her kids are 14 and 16, so they don't actually believe in santa. She said they had never given gifts from mom and dad. Her daughter told me "yeah, we used to think we had lame parents" laugh out loud

And on the coat thing.. My MIL used to be obsessed with the kids having a winter coat and she would buy them one every CHristmas.. they never wore them..unless we got a rare snow day in January or February and they wanted to play. She actually bought me a very expensive long winter coat many years ago, and I never wore it one time.. Just not a big needed thing here in GA

I don't typically wrap stocking stuff....my mom didn't. This year I think I may put the iPod Touch in the bottom of DH's stocking and do stockings last just because Evil laugh out loud I dont' wrap santa gifts either....I just put them in a big pile in the living room like my mom (errrrrrrrrr....SantaTeehee) used to when we were kids. Then I figure that distinguishes them from our gifts and I don't have to worry about accidentally using the same wrapping paper or something. And less work. And WOW factor when dd wakes up and walks out to this big 'ol pile of toys!

We had two kids. Each kid had their own Santa paper and all their gifts were wrapped in it and nothing else was. No tags needed. I set out two piles and laid the appropriate stocking on their pile. The stockings are knitted with their names. I also wrapped all the stocking stuffers. Yes, it was in the their paper too.

I, umm, also used coordinated paper under the tree so it all went together nicely. And years ago when we had several Christmas get togethers and lots of packages I would wrap my side of the family in one, his side of the family in another. Made it easy to grab what I needed for each party.

We also take turns opening too. The kids even did with their Santa stuff.

I like the matching paper idea. I have a feeling by next year DS will start wondering why Santa uses the same paper as mom. laugh out loud I should have a nice little stash of paper from my local Hallmark store that I could use for next year. Evil

And... just out of curiosity... how many gifts do people get their kids from Santa? We usually do just 1 big gift from him and then everything else is under the tree from us. This year the kids each have 1 big gift, but they also have the pillow pets that I think I'm going to wrap.

In our house everything is from "Santa"... but I wrap every single thing... call me crazy.. but with 8 kids it ends up being easier on Christmas morning...

Usually it was one gift from us and all the rest was from Santa. If I were to go back and do it over, I think, I would reverse that and have Santa bring one or two things and the rest under the tree from us.

a friend of ours in germany sends us christmas gifts every year. she's so prompt, the gifts arrive about 2 weeks before christmas each year. this year they were leaving for south africa on vacation so she sent the gifts extra early. we had em before thanksgiving.
they sit unopened.
it's a tradition - we open the gifts christmas day and then call her. Big Grin

i agree... stocking stuffers are exhausting to wrap. when i get really tired, i mix em up by wrapping a few "toffee style" know what i mean?
wrap the body of the present, tape, and then the extra paper hanging on each side, crimp it, and fasten in place with tape. so it looks like a christmas firecracker or hard candy/cough drop in a sweet wrapper. you can add small curly ribbons to the crimped edges to conceal the tape if you like. is super easy and super fast, fills out the stocking so it holds shape too.

you live across from a firehouse? EEK!
i am a couple of miles away from one and still find it exhausting. used to be there was a rule - no sirens at night for fire trucks or ambulances unless there is significant traffic in your way or a big, big, big fire/major medical situation with multiple injured etc. otherwise, use lights and hurry along. but they must have gotten a new crop of guys, or some new directive from up on high, cos they.are.so.loud.now at all hours.

i wrap stocking stuffers, too.
then again, i wrap everything. i like seeing all the differently wrapped presents under the tree and i am a big believer in no peeking, no knowing, no opening before christmas morning. laugh out loud
last year, we went to midnight mass and returned and i still had some presents left to wrap, because i had not been left alone in days so wrapping had not happened. so at 3 am after everyone went to bed, i tiptoed around, slowly pulled things out from their hiding places, then carried everything to the car and drove the car further down the street so i wasn't visible from the windows. i had already hidden the paper in the trunk under a bunch of stuff.
i sat in the driver's seat for the next 3 hours, wrapping. Faint
present would sit in passenger seat as i reached over and taped. rolls of wrapping paper, tissues etc on the back passenger seat. santa's little workshop was chugging away on a cold, cold, cold night.
and then i carried everything up, gingerly put under tree, curled up on couch, left on tv and fell off to (pretend) sleep, so when everyone awoke the story was i had fallen off to sleep watching tv and must have had one too many jolly holly libations. Big Grin

also, for those that haven't mailed SS yet, fyi staples has a promo going on $5 off any ups shipping. they have a coupon for that. not sure when q expires, but staples policy is to take store qs 7 days after expiration.

also, if you have an ebay/paypal account, you can get a significantly discounted rate through paypal for both usps and ups packages.
