I've been looking into light therapy.

Interesting. I wasn't aware that was the case for most alcoholics.
Not all...but a lot from what I've seen. I'm not going to throw out some half-assed percentage amount because I really have no clue. Just what I've heard from quite a few former alcoholics.
Some just like to drink..Dontknow

Alright, I'm off to meet a friend for dinner.

Carry on, ill read whatever you want to post when i get back.

I love how they kept going on blaming genes and hormones for weight gain. Almost sympathetic.

Yet for alcoholics who are also plagued with the same things... interesting.
Umm actually I'm the one who said that about alcoholics, no one else here. And I also never blamed genes or hormones for weight gain. I'm not a Dr. and don't try to pretend I am. Get your post straight before you reply, might help you look less like a moron. I doubt it, but it's worth a try..laugh out loud

The fact is, there are mental issues that people don't want to acknowledge. Kinda like back in the old days, if someone had a mental issue put them away in a looney bin, burn them at the stakes.

Welcome to reality, mental issues do exist and cause physical symptoms..Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Im very much aware of SAD being a real diagnosis but TRUE SAD is often found in people who go for long periods of time without any actual sunlight.

i.e people in the Arctic or certain parts of Alaska.

OP lives in NYC according to location.

all i said is that it is often diagnosed as a result of depression due to weight gain. OP is that the case?

Its not very often to find a true case of SAD in everyday people.
I trust you'll submit your study to the American Journal of Psychology so it can be peer-reviewed and published?

I also hope HE looks in the mirror and plucks those eyebrows. Not that it would help much.

What is interesting is that a certain person in the thread does not seem to grasp that before a clinical diagnosis of SAD can be reached, there has to have been a diagnoses of a major depressive episode, like bipolar disorder, or major depressive disorder for two previous consecutive years during the same time of the year.

So, since the diagnosis for SAD is even more stringent than the diagnosis for say, bipolar II or MDD, is it thought that those disorders are over-diagnosed as well? Very interesting train of thought...

Did i not ask Op if there had been past depression?

And would i say depression in general is over diagnosed? Depending on who you ask. Yes it is.

Pharmaceutical companies make money just by pushing drugs. So do the psychologists who treat the depression.

Wow.

Well OP, I'm hoping that you are getting counseling or have a good pdoc or something and this is not a self diagnosis.

If you are feeling down during winter, I'm with everyone else on the physical exercise. If you really want to try the light therapy, they are quite expensive. I guess you can give it a shot Dontknow The boy has light therapy lamp, but its not for depression. He has a sleeping disorder and the light helps reset his internal clock correctly....it slowly turns on in morning and then it "sets" at night.

I just hope you have someone qualified helping you out. Don't depend on the lounge LMAO

And what the hell does that mean you get a short summer?

Did you go outside today?
Was there any sun?
Did you go out yesterday?
Was there any sun?

Unless the answer to both of those is yes, no, yes and no, respectively dont give me that bullshit about NYC being a dark and gloomy place.
I can honestly say we haven't had sun in days. We get a handful of sunny days between October and April. Really, Mr. I-live-in-LA.
