I've been looking into light therapy.

A litttle bit too much, so you probably pee it out:
'The Adequate Intake (AI) levels have been established by the U.S. Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. Recommendations are: 5 micrograms (200 IU or International Units) daily for all individuals (males, female, pregnant/lactating women) under the age of 50 years-old.'
EEK! Every study ( non gov) points to at least 800-1000 IU for adults and 200 IU for children. Do you have a link stating 200 IU for adults? I'd love to see it out of curiosity.

even this says at least 600 IU

It is a disorder. It doesn't have to make sense to you. You don't suffer from it so you have no idea.

Telling someone to get on medication because it doesn't make sense to you- is not a valid point.

What may fix one thing could screw up another.

Melatonin levels: The change in season can disrupt the balance of the natural hormone melatonin, which plays a role in sleep patterns and mood.

Apparently, it's pretty controversial:

I was already taking 400 IU and came in pretty deficient, so my doctor upped it to 4,400 IU.

My doc put me on an even higher than 4,000 daily dose...while you are correct you might pee some out, a higher does helps stabilize the amounts in your body. Or so my doctor says. It works for me, so I'll keep with it. Only problem with the higher doses is you need to buy huge bottles at the pharmacy, or get a prescription for the higher dose.

I was mildly deficient and put on 2,000 iu daily. I even occasionally take it.

I try to get outside and walk still, just have to bundle up really well. Right now we've got about 4 inches of snow out and it's driving me insane. I think the sunlight does help me a lot and when I'm stuck inside I get a little down. I also take melatonin at night to help me sleep, it tends to help I've noticed.

During the summer, my husband and I ride our motorcycles a lot so that gets me out of the house and something to look forward to. I'm currently experiencing PMS (parked motorcycle syndrome) and going insane lol.
