So I caught a mouse.....

39,439 5,562 January 31, 2011 at 05:30 AM in Rant
Saw a mouse scampering around my garage so I got some glue traps. A little bit of peanut butter and within 45 mins I caught the sucker. His hind legs were stuck to the trap and he was bodyboarding around with his front legs. I took the trap and tossed it in the trash.

So I wake up later in the night by my dogs barking. I go down to the garage to check it out and lo and behold one of his buddies was trying a jail break and couldn't get out of the trash can (one of those rubbermaid round trash cans)! As soon as I lifted the top he took off. Mouse #1 was still in the bottom (fresh bag) twitching around. I left another trap (pack of 4!) with some more PB in the same spot.

30 minutes later I hear a "pop" sound which most likely came from the fireplace, but I go downstairs to check it out anyway. The trap I just put out 30 minutes prior is GONE but mouse #1 is still hanging out in the trash. I checked around a bit but couldn't find mouse #2 (he couldn't have gone far, stuck to the trap).

Fast forward to this morning. Still no mouse #2. Mouse #1 made a jailbreak - the trap is still in the trash but no mouse!

It's all out war now.... put down the second 2 traps - let's see if I catch anything! Hopefully my idiot dogs don't get stuck in the traps.

Not to mention the germs and disease. This has been an insane year for mice infestations, they are so bad in my city, I've even seen them running down a city street in broad daylight.
We've had a lot of field mice getting into our building at work...lot's of traps...sticky and the old Mark I mouse traps...those had peanutbutter and the lil bastages just licked them clean and never set them off...the glue type worked best so far.

You really should kill the mice if you use glue traps. You can either drown them, run them over, or put them in a ziploc w/a cotton ball soaked in alcohol. If you are not willing to kill them after trapping them, then you need to get the kind that quickly snaps their necks. If they are left alive on the traps, they will literally chew off their own legs trying to get free or they will starve. Please be humane.

LMAOLMAOLMAO

Mice chewed up my vehicle's dashboard wiring and later some died a slow smelly death in it. Apparently, mice do play when people are away for the weekend!

Thank goodness I don't live in the country anymore. Worse stench and mess ever!

Mice suck

I hate those glue traps. We had them at a coffee shop I worked at and once I accidentally stepped on one. My shoe stuck to the floor when I walked for weeks.

My mother had a problem with mice once and tried the glue traps. Sitting in her living room she heard a "clap................... clap" noise and went to the kitchen to check it out. Her small dog (a shi-tzu/poodle mix.... like 9 lbs) had stepped in a trap and was trying to walk around laugh out loud It took her a couple hours to remove the trap then a couple more to remove the adhesive.

Iagree

I hate the idea of killing mice, but I also hate how they chewed up so much of my stuff and peed on everything in my bedroom. So kill the suckers! Don't just leave them there to suffer, just get it over with.

Disagree Mice are rodents, not animals. They lost the humane vote when they come into my house and chew wires and god only knows what else. Sorry I could care less if they suffer. They are disease infested RODENTS..

Oh yeah, I agree they are nasty and a pain and all - totally. But just kill them and get it over with...

I mean... catching it and leaving it in the glue the first time didn't work out anyway - he got away. So if only for that reason - just kill it.

Can you cook and eat a mouse? What about a squirrel?

Rodents are animals- beavers, prairie dogs, hamsters, porcupines, etc., are all rodents. I'm not saying you have to like mice or rats, just show them a little mercy. They don't know what they are but they do feel pain.

I looked into the best way a little while ago and it seemed to be the traditional trap. We had the wood/spring kind and they were terrible. After going through reviews and using these personally, I can tell you these work great:

or if you prefer Home Depot [homedepot.com]

There is a little well for the Peanut Butter so they HAVE to set off the trap to get to it. They say disposable but I've re-used them several times and they keep working
