hot compresses are great for styes and pink eyes!
but you also need to make sure to wash the eye. if you have any refresh eye drops that's best. if you're going to buy some, get the kind that says refresh plus, preservative free and comes in individual vials, so as not to put a bottle to your infected eye. refresh is essentially sterile saline solution but has the same composition as your natural tears and so is very good to clean out your eye and lubricate it.
if you don't have refresh and can't get any, use a clean small glass bowl, fill it with cold water, place face down so the bowl "cups" your eye, then raise head to rinse out inside of eye with the water. you'll feel the water get all warm. do it a few times a day, although refresh is easier to do and better.
the idea is to clean out the infection gunk from inside your eye and keep the eye lubricated. the dryness is probably making it feel more sore. heated homes in the winter don't help.

Ank was right - it was me. It turns out I have corneal dystrophy. It was never a stye, though. Started out with my eyelid sticking to my eye in the morning, then progressed to feeling like something was in my eye. Then I got uber-sensitive to light. Ended up having my eyeball scraped. Had my last appointment with the doc yesterday. What happens this morning? My eye is feeling "odd" again. I am praying it's not starting all over again. I don't think I could go through it again.

About the compress: I was told not to use a washcloth, as it loses the heat too rapidly. You want to use as a compress that's as hot as you can stand. I made a small bag, about the size of an eyeglass case, and filled it with dry rice. 30 seconds in the microwave (+/-) and leave it on for 5 minutes. Twice a day. Helps the glands in the eyelids secrete whatever it is they do.

Getgreen is right on about the type of eyedrops. Be sure you don't use the same vial for both eyes. You don't want to cross-contaminate.
Thanks for the info.. The compress does make it feel so much better, but the washcloth does cool fast and I have been reheating it.. I will try the rice..
I know I have some kind of eye drops around here from all my drug store deals.. let me go search for some. Didn't even think of that.. I think it would feel better if I actually got some sleep last night *shrug* but I didn't..

Bronc - hope your eye doesn't cause you problems again shake head

We found out yesterday that my grandpa has only days to live. He and my grandma have been having health issue after health issue for a long time, and there's just nothing more they can do for him, other than keep him comfortable. I know my grandma won't be far behind - they've been inseparable since they got married, which was 60+ years ago. She gets very confused when he's not there and starts fretting, so I know once it hits her that he is gone she will be unconsolable.

So now the dilemma is how do we get up there for the funeral/memorial service? We are still waiting on one last W-2 before we can file our taxes, and who knows when that will come in. Guess I need to start praying it in!

And my mom wants my sisters and me to sing at the funeral. Not sure how I'll be able to manage that.

OK, off to clean the house. At least that is something I have complete control over!!
hug sorry to hear about your grandpa.. Keep praying.. something will work out..

l2bam... don't use random eye drops. they all have synthetic things in them that actually can irritate eyes and usually get your eyes addicted/dependent. refresh is best (even eye docs tell you that). if you don't have any - they are never free, but there are usually coupons out for some discount - use clean filtered water.

compress... rice works great. so does salt. take a clean cheesecloth or kerchief. heat salt in a pan till the grains start popping and the salt texture becomes much finer. put into a doubled cheesecloth. be careful it will be VERY hot! knot the cloth to make a small bag. this will stay hot/warm for hours so you could use it as a periodic compress without having to reheat. but be very careful using when you first heat it because it will be very, very, very hot.

bronc... hug praying for you and hoping your eye is just annoyed with the exam and nothing more.

flug... hug praying for you guys that a financial path opens up and praying for your grandfather for peace and no pain and for your grandmum for peace and less confusion/sadness/emptiness.

Yes that is right! Do you have a reader or similar device?

Today should've been DH's payday with his former employer. Before he gave his notice, he was told that all accrued vacation and personal time would be paid, in accordance with company policy and Michigan law. Did he get anything? Not a single cent. I am so pissed. All hell will break lose at 9AM.

I'm sorry to hear that. We lost our grandpa a year ago last September. Like yours, my grandma and grandpa were married for a loooong time, and very close. Since he passed my grandma has had a lot of memory loss issues and just downright not herself.

oops.. I just used some saline solution I found. I had several bottles of the biotrue stuff and squirted some in Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

The pain is not really in my eye.. just the eye lid is sore on the outside.. the compress seems to help the most.

I think I am gonna try to bribe the boys to watch my toddler later and let me take a nap Smilie

You could do the passive aggressive thing and just let the calls go to the machine when you don't want to talk. Or... you could just tell them that you appreciate the eagerness but if they could keep their calls to one or two per day and that you'll return messages as soon as you possibly can, you'd appreciate it... (I'd probably be more passive aggressive. *laugh*)
I thought it was a bit much too. She ended up sending a note with her daughter, so I wrote one back saying that my afternoons are spent watching my friends kids, seeing clients, dance classes, etc and that we would have to arrange something in the future. Her daughter is more than welcome to come over and play with all the kiddos that I watch, but I can't really send my girls away when I have kids coming over to play with them. KWIM.

I lost some quotes but gt the garlic is supposed to help boost your immune system and kill bacteria etc. I've read a few different studies on it and it is good stuff. So I take it and for me have had very good results. I am the only one who has not gotten sick and the only one who took garlic, maybe luck or maybe not. It's been about 3 yrs since I have been using garlic as a preventative measure and in 3 yrs have been ill only one or two times. It didn't help at all to stop the swine flu! : (
Usually when I get 'sick' it is a migrain.

But, today is her birthday! I can't believe she is 3 already.. time is going by way too fast and I don't like it at all.. I don't want my baby to grow up! I have no idea exactly what we are going to do for her birthday.. Thankfully at her age, she doesn't really care laugh out loud She will be perfectly happy if we take her to eat and play.. and then I make her a cake..

I started having eye pain last night while at work.. Feeling like a stye was coming on.. When I got home last night, almost my entire eye lid was puffy and red.. I remember someone on here had a really bad problem a few months ago.. I started with the warm compress.. It made it feel better but it is pretty sore this morning.. Hoping this day improves!
Happy Birthday to DD!! It does go by way to quickly. Hope your eye gets better, DD had a really puffy eyelid and I did the salt like GG said and it helped the most.

I want to live off the grid too. Not sure about the hand pumping, but I do want a nice well and solar power. I really want a garden but I am just starting to get some containers so I can garden that way for now. Ewe on the poo Teehee to much of that lately. I would rather get one of those Composting Toilets and leave it in there lol.

Awe, flu hug such sad news. I'm not sure how much time you have to shop of if you can return things but some Walmarts have gas pumps and if you return stuff you will get a Walmart gas card that can be used at the pumps. We also have a Smiths and another local grocery store that are the same way, you can use store GC at the pumps. And Target has the Target Visa GC in most stores. I pray things work out and you can be there for your family.

Quote from jteef1 :
I am wondering if kids that take off their own dirty diapers are easier to potty break though...My son was so dang hard to potty break because he didn't care if his pants were dirty...

And you just can't let those things go - would be hard to explain to caseworkers that you did not beat your child - you just grazed them scraping half dried poop off them with a putty knife...

So when my son finally strarted taking his pants off after he dirtied them - I took that as a good sign that he had reached the point that he actually cared that his pants were poopy.

Wow! I still remember that moment.... after all these years... Had just shampooed the carpets and then noticed my son must have tracked cookies in the house.... then I started noticing there were more chocolate cookies than vanilla cookies... then I noticed the chocolate wasn't cookies....
That is what I was hoping for. But he seems really terrified of toilets. He hates his little potty and won't even just sit on it to read like his older sisters did. We got him a new one and he would rather carry the insert around and eat snacks out of it. It is new but still, it just looks so WRONG on so many levels that he likes to carry that thing around and eat snacks out of it. Ugh! LMAO He is also scared of toilet, DH has perched him on the big potty and held him there for 45 min or so encouraging him to poo but he just clung to him and didn't do it. Not until he had a diaper on. So when he is diaperless he will run to my shower and pee in there. He has done it a few times now. DH thinks we should just encourage him to do that because he won't go near his tiny potty for his business needs and he is to short to pee in the big potty. Dontknow maybe there is a online tutorial for potty training boys, both my girls were done potty training at 2, they just took right to it.
