RETIRED: Target chit chat

I glue all Lego sets together. We have some sets that are made specifically for imaginative, freestyle play but themed sets like Star Wars etc, oh those suckers get glued. I got tired of pieces being lost because my older ds purposely destroyed the sets.

L2BM and slowt... yes it feels like forever, but in reality it's been 5 weeks. er and doc had said chest injuries will take about 2-3 months for pain/shortness of breath to decrease. it has decreased - i am not constantly gasping, but it is still hard to breathe and doesn't take much to send me to gasping with just a little exertion. knee and shoulder - could be several months depending on what has happened to the soft tissue. i sustained extensive soft tissue injuries in both areas plus extensive chest and abdomen trauma. my belly is still swollen, still has tender spots and i still feel the burning pinching pain with a little bending or if the laptop pushes against it etc. i remain on a no bending, no lifting order. realization: our bodies are amazing machines, but delicate ones at that. they're not designed to be shunted about and battered inside a car. so, slow and steady it goes. somedays are worse than others. somedays i feel miserably sorry for myself - yesterday. smack me when i do, cos i am lucky that i will heal. and besides i am better than i was right after ax when i couldn't get up or lie down with assistance or get dressed or undressed or go to the bathroom or shower without help. i can do all that myself now. i'm getting better, albeit slower than i like, and with much more pain than i bargained for.

i like the lcd ones a lot, because you can see the actual level and monitor the reduction progress if you open windows etc. BUT not much point if you are going to put em on a ceiling cos you aren't exactly going to crane your neck and read upside down are ya?
good place to use em: garage walls if you park cars indoors, and even inside a car using velcro, if you use a remote starter and leave your car to warm up. kitchen wall is another great place i think.

If you don't me asking, how is it going with the claim? I mentioned that my brother was recently hit by a driver running a red light. and his car is also totaled.

The other guy hired a lawyer to fight the claim. Even though the police cited him, witnesses all say the guy ran a red light, and my brother was told that they don't know when they will be able to close the claim for his car, and their medical bills. He had to take my SIL to the ER Sunday because she was in so much pain. It made me think of you.

I told my brother he needs to get a lawyer too. He doesn't want to but sounds like he may have no choice.

17 inches of snow last nite! yesterday the forecast was 6-10 so thought i might have the chance to check out all the juicy clearance i've been reading about in deals today. NOT!!! woke up to see a neighbor trying to get his car unstuck from the street and pull back into his garage. a bunch of other neighbors were standing around. they had probably helped unstick him. maybe friday i will go to a further but bigger target and skip the supermarket for the 3rd wk in a row since i have plenty of food in the pantry and freezer still. just need oj and bread and i could suffer getting bread at target if there is a deal to make up for paying a little more.

well, we have a 2 stage practically new snowthrower that needs to be serviced b/c the engine is all gunked up. for some unknown reason dh has not wanted to take it in and has been doing all the shoveling by himself. it's a $600 hunk of useless metal hogging up space in our not so big garage. so what happens? we have the snowiest january on record.

the snowstorm was actually a 2-parter and dh shoveled 5-6 inches yesterday but it looks like he didn't do anything. i know i will have to go out this time and help shovel. the township snowplow pushes the salt/snow/ice combo into the entrance and that's always the heaviest and toughest part to clear. snowthrowers usually don't work on that stuff. just hard manual labor. so that's what i'll be doing today.

I think DH has been thinking about a zillion things at once and this is really kind of making the fragility of life sink in. I noticed he's much more patient with the girls the past couple of days - and even more playful with them than normal (which is a lot as it is!) He's been surprised at how much it's affecting him, but I had to remind him that it was okay and that he's been through a lot of changes in a very short time period. His grandfather had passed away a little over a year ago, and now with grandma passing it's like a whole different kind of finality that is settling in for him. These are the 2 closest and biggest deaths/losses he's ever had to deal with, so it's a whole new experience. He's never had to learn how to cope with grief before.

i was 6 or so when i lost my paternal grandmother. had never been close to her but i still remember feeling very sad that i hadn't gotten to know her and never would. but i remember my father - a big, strong man whom I had never before seen crying or being vulnerable - was just torn apart. he tried not to cry in front of us, but would break into tears if he checked up on him. he was redeyed and unshaven for the days leading upto funeral.a and then even after the funeral, daddy walked around the house unseeing. he went to work in a daze. his world was broken - he'd lost his father when he was but a teen. and losing his mum just really really hurt. it was my first encounter with grief and loss. i hurt because my daddy was hurting. even thinking about it all these years later hurts me.
i lost my maternal grandfather -- my only other living grandparent, and one i was very very very very close to - when i was 13.
i still haven't recovered from it. i still miss him terribly.
there were more losses to come in the years ahead, each very heartbreaking, each changed my life completely. BUT, i will say that the first brush with grief/loss is one that changes you in certain ways and shakes you up. particularly your grandparents, because now you know, everything comes to an end, and it means you will lose others you love. horrible.

i am so sorry your husband is going through this.

This happened to my friend this morning.

When DH came home from work today he said he thinks it's starting to hit him about his grandmother. He's been recounting memories and things about his grandparents all day. It's sweet and sad to watch at the same time. He said it amazes him how much it's affecting him and how connected he is/was with his family. He said he just never realized before about how deeply he's connected to his family. I think it's a weird surreal feeling still for him.

your brother had insurance right? if so, he doesn't need to fight the other person's insurance company. just go through his own company. as for health insurance, what is the law in your state? generally if you have personal injury protection (included in most policies) your own car insurance company has to pay. you just give the claim number at the ER and the doc's offices. and keep rcpts for everything. everything.

Me and kids were in an accident, thankfully nothing happened to the other driver and us. Same red light violation and it was my fault. Till date i think, no injury to anyone is the big factor for me.
I am going nuts about those legos if going 75% Hubby thinks I am crazy

Thanks, guys, for your thoughts! My aunt is planning the memorial service, and I just love her to death. She is such a positive, joyful person, and despite the fact that her daddy just died, she is still full of humor, and wants to make sure this service is a happy occasion, not a sad one.

We ended up getting about 8-9" of snow. Heavy, thick, wet snow. Which means hideous to shovel. And hubby and I were out for a couple hours last night, clearing our drive and where his car was parked on the street, only to wake up this morning and find the plow had plowed our driveway back in. grrrrrr... Thankfully, since hubby's car was on the street, he didn't have to shovel anymore, just get in the car and go. But if I want to go anywhere, I have to go out and shovel. So I think my decision is made for me - stay home! Don't have any money anyway, although that's not always a requirement for me shopping.

Stories abound of outrageous drives home last night - lots and lots of people had a 7-8 hour commute because of the snow. Even Obama's motorcade got stuck in it! If hubby hadn't left early because of a mechanic appt, the road he always takes was SHUT DOWN and he would have been stuck right in the middle of it, probably not gotten home until midnight, like a coworker of his. So thankful for those little things that God takes care of.

Another main road was shut down for a 20-mile or more stretch, due to snow and multiple cars getting stuck. It was crazy, reading about it on fb, where people were opening up for their homes for drivers who were stranded. I guess people didn't take it seriously when gov't workers were released 2 hours early - if the govt releases people early, that means the weather is BAD, so get moving!

Anyway, we are enjoying the snow day. Had the little ones help me clean up in their rooms, then Jaden read to me, and now they're watching Tinkerbell. So cute to hear my 2yo say "Tinkerbell".

Off to drink another glass of water and contemplate doing something productive.
