When I went outside for a smoke before, the temperature inside and outside was about the same--low 80s.

The main problem is that people want GRASS lawns. It's ridiculous. This climate won't support grass without extensive watering. Some people plant ivy on their lawns which doesn't require a lot of water. The problem with that is the rats sometimes move in. The smartest ones have small stones and cacti -- the small ones. When they bloom, it's gorgeous. But so few people grew up in this area, we're mostly transplants. So those people want grass because that's what they had growing up. Plus, bottom line, it's kind of hard playing catch with your children when your lawn is full of cacti.
