I have been coming to Slickdeals for a long time...

432 1,827 July 30, 2011 at 06:53 AM
Just recently I have begun frequenting this section of Slickdeals. I am a member of other boards relating to couponing also, and I have received nothing but welcome from these other boards. From reading these threads here at Slickdeals in this section daily for the the past several weeks, I am frankly afraid to post.

There seems to be a small group of people here that act like it is a crime if you don't know which thread to post in, the proper couponing etiquette, ask a question that may have been answered somewhere else, and basically anything they don't care for.

I have found quite a few awesome deals that I want to post and share here, but rarely do because of the behavior exhibited in these threads. Just food for thought. Try to remember you were once a newbie at this, and take care when you think about jumping down someone's throat.

So sorry to hear of your bad experience. Yep, we were all new at one point or another. There are some that take great pride in jumping on others, I just assume that they have some sort of insecurity problem. Allot of folks probably see that you have been a member since 2008 and that you should know it all...but that's not always the case.

Hang in there because there are allot of wonderful folks in the Drugstore Forum. If you are looking to save some money, you gotta just jump on in there and learn to ignore nasty comments. The nice and helpful folks will point you in the right direction, if you are posting in the wrong thread.

Well, judging at your post here, I'm guessing you don't try very hard to follow the basic rules. Wink

Actually, not the case but these are the type of zingers I am talking about. I haven't been beat up on yet because I post very little, but the things I have seen, all I can say is wow!

Well you need to be a bit less sensitive. If my previous post was a "zinger", I strongly suggest you go back into lurk mode until you can take comments less personal.

People who contribute very little haven't earned the right to complain about getting deals. You aren't being singled out, everyone is subjected to the same posts.. There are idiots everywhere in life, and you are the only person that can control how it impacts you.

My problem with you just from my initial exposure to you in this thread: Don't post stupid messages in improper forums.. This is not a deal, nor is it a Drugstore / Grocery B&M deal / discussion.

Are you that afraid of addressing the issue you had in the proper thread?

Ok, then explain the reason for this post?

Tips/comments:

1). You are not a newbie, you have been around since 2008...
2). If you ask a question that was already answered, yes people get annoyed because you didn't read or search the thread. There are countless threads with people asking the same question 900 times, and it tends to get annoying for those who read.. Most will help you, but you shouldn't make a habit out of not searching
3). Don't be afraid to post. While some of us could literally reach through the computer and self-destruct your computer, we aren't likely to target someone like you
4). Ignore people like me that you don't like to hear recommendations from.. Of course you will be right back to your starting point, but at least you will be oblivious to why people respond to you as they do.

I agree with you there are some people who regularly post who can be rude and only point out the mistakes a poster makes, and they treat people badly like its there own private club and new and low posters don't belong, but there are many more who will help and will rep you when you help them. And yes this seems to be a problem with this Drugstore/Grocery B&M Deals + Discussion area only as most of the other areas are there to tell people about deals. I have told a few people that they think SD stands for secret deals. This has been more of a problem since the extreme coupon show but people are shooting them-self in their foot by this negative behavior as these people will post their deals elsewhere.

Which post are you referring to the original or the one you replied to in particular? I am clearly not speaking regarding personal comments I have received since I rarely post, I am speaking of what I have seen and the reactions those posts have received. I could care less what people say about me, or to me but my point is I am not going to contribute to a forum that treats their members in the way some of these people have been treated. You guys may be losing out on a great many contributors who could provide awesome deal info by acting the way you do with them including myself. That was my point.

Reread my post, I updated it.

The "forum" does not treat you any way, the people who come here treat you the way they see you from your posts. Slickdeals is not missing out on you not posting, but you are missing out on the forum by taking what individual posters say to you so personally. Again, this is no different than real life, except people have the luxury of "hiding" behind a computer and saying not only what they would to you in person, but what they think about you that they might not say in person. You get the real deal on an internet forum.. If you can't tolerate people saying things you don't like, ignore them.

People typically build up a reputation when they post, and other posters will defend you if they see you unfairly targeted. The way I'm reading this, is you're creating drama by posting this very message, and avoiding taking on the direct issue that caused you to post this.

P.S. - Luckily someone helped you move the discussion into the proper forum. Oh no, I've entered the lounge AGAIN. I said I never would ACK!

When I first came to The Lounge - it seemed quite intimidating - but Slick Chic took me under her wings via PM and offered to help me if I needed advice - and I was thankful for that - and I learned one thing here - read, read, read - before I began posting anything. I also learned one does need a thick skin no matter where you are posting, as yes there are folks that will tear you a new one, that's a given.

2008, I agree that if you have been here that long - by now you should have read all the FAQ's in the Coupon Threads and other Threads that would have been helpful to you. By responding to other people's posts - you develop a repoir with people - and with that - you gain tutelage if you need it by said person(s).

You just can't complain without action on your own, imho. Please give it another try, you only learn by trying, otherwise, you will remain in the darkness here - and as a newbie Smilie
