That makes a lot of sense
The "Occupy" kids there weren't doing anything to bother other people, based on what I know (correct me if I'm wrong)... How is 50 kids quietly protesting more dangerous than a tent city of kids (most of whom were intoxicated) partying before a sporting event for weeks?
Did any "shit" actually happen from the protestors? I don't think so. It was the cops that were a threat to public safety.
You do know what's in pepper spray, right? It's just the active ingredient in peppers...capsaicin. It's like cutting peppers in your kitchen and accidentally touching your eyes.
I'd rather get hit by a stick.
Just exactly why did the cops HAVE to spray them?
Why couldn't they just arrest them.
No one has given a good reason for this yet.
That's like saying if a kid dies from a bee sting, he should've known better.
Yes, I've been hit by pepper spray before.. I know what it is.

How do you know they weren't going to fight back? They were already breaking the law and being defiant and they very well could have had weapons. This was a very large group of very immature college students.
Geez, you don't think 35 cops in riot gear couldn't defend themselves against 50 college kids, some of whom were girls?
"Most efficient method".. ie the laziest solution.
Have you ever been sprayed with pepper spray, or just treated people that have?
Were the cops at UC handing out artificial tears aftter they unloaded on the kids? I doubt it.

It is like kid throwing a temper tantrum. They will get worse and worse till they get what they want. The police have to reinforce the rules. This lets the kids know that it will not be tolerated. And in the end, it is better for all groups.

Sounds like the police and administration are really full of themselves and abusing their authority. Glad I didn't go there.
If they didn't, traffic would be crazy in that town. Where I live now, bicyclists think they own the road. They don't follow the rules of the road. Now, if you multiply the number of bycyclists by 10 or more, it would be chaos on the roads!

They made a choice....period.

However, in your mind, that's better than getting sprayed with pepper spray, right?!?!?!?
And no, the cops wouldn't have the artificial tears immediately on hand. But, the kids could get treated after they're booked.

Oh what? that's different somehow?
My granpa was a professor at Davis for years and gave the school millions after he retired, and so i spent a lot of time there as a kid and i still live less than 50 miles from it. It is a progressive town with an ag-based college, and this kind of force is not appropriate at it. Maybe at other schools - not in this area. Davis camps police made a big mistake. period. Davis (the city) will not allow this. And they have say in this too.
