AAA in California has temporarily reduced their $20 enrollment fee for new members to $1 by enrolling here [aaa.com]. Total enrollment for one member is $49. This is further reduced by $4.50 to $44.50 if you select the Auto-Renew option, which you can change at a later time without penalty.

You can add one other household adult member for $25 and dependants under 21 for $27 each.

While their towing benifits are not so great (7 miles), their discounts (travel, meal, entertainment) etc. easily pays for the membership several times over if used.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFIT LEVEL ELIGIBILITY:
New members can join the Auto Club at the Classic level of benefits only. After one year, existing members with Classic level of benefits are eligible to upgrade to AAA Plus or AAA Premier if the primary member in the membership household has been a primary member of the Auto Club for the prior 365 days and there have been no tows in the membership household through the Auto Club during the same time period.

I heard they are anti-bicycle. With all the bicyclists killed here in Florida, I think we need to find a fair balance. Also, I went to one of their "AAA approved" shops that the tow truck driver recommended. It was a mickey mouse operation.

Holy. This STILL works, and I'm amazed that they haven't raised their prices yet.

And kind of equally interesting, I haven't been able to find a better deal mentioned since.

Doesn't work :-( Asks me to put in my zip code, and after lots of thinking... nothing. It refreshes the same page, asking me to put in my zip code. Tried both Chrome and Safari.
