RECALL: Excedrin®, NoDoz®, Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products

408 1,133 January 9, 2012 at 05:10 AM in Grocery (7) Rite Aid
http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/index.html

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin® and NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States.

NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.

As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Consumers also may click here to obtain a form to obtain a refund.

These actions have been communicated to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are working closely with the FDA and will continue to do so throughout this process.

Additional information may also be found on the FDA website at www.fda.gov.

*Update* I just got off the phone with the rebate center, finally got through. For the opened meds he took the down the lot # expiration date, product name and count. He said I will be getting fair market value on these items. Note* a few of the opened items were expired I don't know what they will give me for fair market value on those, didn't say. I asked what fair market value was and he said he didn't know.

For the items that are in boxes I have to send in the upc with the form he told me to attached separate sheet with the items listed because there isn't enough room on the original sheet. I will be taking a pic of all my upc's and form for future reference. He also said that they would only give $2 for postage. I asked if he could just take all the information over the phone he told me no I would have to mail them in.

**There have been differing reports of directions received from cs reps. Suggest if you call for yourself. Document the reps name, time, date, and take pictures.

Still, I think I would rather have cash in this case because I've filled two shopping bags with Excedrin so I think it'd be $200 or more.
Wow! I filled only 1 bag - but I think I still have more. I also need to find my Gas-X preventions. I only used one bottle but I know I have more. This is really confusing what I have to do... My store are a lot less helpful being metro NYC and all.. so I'd rather go through the company.

Just returned them to publix and then this happened-

This is unbelievable and even worse it happened a publix store .....

I'm so sorry that this happened to you! On the one hand it seems like the employee just doesn't have an understanding of how things work, but on the other hand I know that even after hearing that it's easy for the person to still get to you.

I'm wondering if I should try the route of exchanging some of the bottles at a store to avoid a situation where an employee tries to claim fraud...

If the lot numbers on the bottles I have don't match the lots being recalled, I shouldn't be worried, right?
They've not posted lot numbers, actually. They're recalling everything by expiration date regardless of lot number.

Where are you seeing lot #'s, it is my understanding it goes by the date expiring Dec 20, 2013 or earlier for the Bufferin, Gas x
December 20, 2014 or earlier for the excedrin, nodoz

Just an fyi.....

Check your medicine cabinet: You could have one or more bottles of recalled pills. They are offering estimate retail price plus $2 shipping and handling refund.

Pharmaceutical company Novartis has voluntarily recalled certain bottles of the following brand medications:
Bufferin
Excedrin
Gas-X
NoDoz

Novartis has listed the specific products impacted at novartis-otc.com/otc.

The recall is in response to complaints over mislabeled and broken pills, Novartis said.

The Excedrin and NoDoz products have an expiration date of Dec. 20, 2014, or earlier.

For the Bufferin and Gas-X products, the expiration date is Dec. 20, 2013, or earlier.

To obtain a refund, download and print a product return form http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/N...n-Form.pdf and send it to the following address:
Telerx
600 Lasley Ave.

I have an enormous rubbermaid tub in my attic i dump vitamins & meds in whenever they're a freebie or mm deal, it's about 1/3 full of excedrin, probably half of those are already past their expiration date. How much do they reimburse for returned product, and would I get anything back for expired excedrins?
If the mfg is not asking for product to be returned, only a list of lot #'s, why would anybody bother bringing the product back to the store?

Yes, Right but the recall is going by Date, not lot #. You still need the # for the form but it is the date that matters when trying to determine if it is recalled or not. Thanks Smilie
