RECALL: Excedrin®, NoDoz®, Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products

408 1,133 January 9, 2012 at 05:10 AM in Grocery (7) Rite Aid
http://www.novartis-otc.com/otc/index.html

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin® and NoDoz® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States.

NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.

As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

Consumers also may click here to obtain a form to obtain a refund.

These actions have been communicated to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We are working closely with the FDA and will continue to do so throughout this process.

Additional information may also be found on the FDA website at www.fda.gov.

*Update* I just got off the phone with the rebate center, finally got through. For the opened meds he took the down the lot # expiration date, product name and count. He said I will be getting fair market value on these items. Note* a few of the opened items were expired I don't know what they will give me for fair market value on those, didn't say. I asked what fair market value was and he said he didn't know.

For the items that are in boxes I have to send in the upc with the form he told me to attached separate sheet with the items listed because there isn't enough room on the original sheet. I will be taking a pic of all my upc's and form for future reference. He also said that they would only give $2 for postage. I asked if he could just take all the information over the phone he told me no I would have to mail them in.

i finally got through to customer service and they said to send in the upc code on the box with the exp. date on it along with the form and you sound get your refund. She didn't say how much you get for each box though.

you don't need to fill the lots etc if you have the upc code and exp. date on it. Tear off that part and send in with the form

I have only one bottle of Excedrin Extra Strength Tabs 50 count so I'm hoping they don't require me to mail the bottle itself back. It seems unclear to me. Anyway, I just peeled the label off the bottle and filled out the form ( the label peeled off really easily if you go slow and it has the lot numbers, etc. shown on it, although the NDC number was hard to read with my old man eyes, even with my glasses on ). I stuck the label on the bottom of the form. Hope they refund my money without me having to send them back. Gonna just toss my bottle into the trash and hope for the best as far as a refund.

Thanks for posting this, OP.

I will take retail price PLUS $2 shipping if all I have to send in is the UPC code. What's the point of the $2 shipping if you are sending in the code? A form for each. Oy vey.

I can see this is going to be a debacle. Easier to return to the store.

For the cashiers who are talking about you getting this for free or reduced price - you are out your product. So if they can't replace the product then you are due what it would take for you to buy it again when they get their act together and get it on the shelves.

How many times have I had to deal with Tylenol. Lost track.

check out this part of the story

"FDA officials warned Monday that some of Novartis' over-the-counter pills may have accidentally been packaged with powerful prescription painkillers made at the same facility. The opioid drugs are sold by Endo Pharmaceuticals as Percocet, Endocet, Opana and Zydone."

I also called my Favorite Ra Store to inform the manager and also ask how I would go about returning them to the store. She (to my surprise) said didn't you get those free? I am going to have to ask my dm, how to handle this. I said Ok.... I don't think I am going to go there with her.... I will just send them in.

You have to give the lot # on the bottle. No upc needed on the open stuff, but you will need to call.

FYI--I called CVS to see what they would do without a receipt and was told you would get a moneycard no problem.

Seriously? The Manager at your Rite Aid REMEMBERS exactly what you buy and how much you pay for it MONTHS later? And if she really has THAT good of a memory, why not just go to a different Rite Aid store where they don't know you?

Win!
Interesting how me and mine noticed a few chipped or broken pills and figured it was just a rough shipment or someone dropped it at the store. I'm wondering if those pills were the coated and colored the same or were you getting a blue pill mixed in with your green pills.
