Base on what criterias do you rank people?

611 189 February 6, 2012 at 11:15 AM in Chat
I'm going to put this out there first before asking this question. I believe that our brainpower lasts longer than our physical appearance. Almost every nice looking person in this world will one day grow old and become unattractive but brainpower is there with them until the day they die or acquire Alzheimer. With that being said and since I am in college right now I will start up with the college environment. Does anyone here rank people based on what their major are in college - kind of like the caste system? The more difficult major require higher rank in high school - meaning people who excelled in every class in high school are allowed admission to that specific major.

I'm curious about this because whenever I walk around campus, I always see people wearing shirts that may have one of the following phrases on them "College of Liberal Art, College of Natural Science, College of Engineering, College of Business." Does this mean that they want to be ranked based on their major?

Ok ok, I will be more broad. In college, I respect those majors that have the lowest acceptance rate since those majors tend to be the hardest in the universities. In life, I respect those who have vast amount of wealth (anyone who is making 100k+ a year). There is a positive correlation between tough majors and money making power. So, in the end, I respect those who can strive through a tough major. And, they have every right to judge me and I will respect everything they say. But, for those that are in the majors deemed not beneficial for society or improving our lives, their says mean nothing.
100k isn't much.

I agree. Bill Gates, George Soros, Michael Jordan, Warren Buffet.......they all had those really hard majors didn't they. How did they ever pull if off. Dontknow
Bill gates and Warren Buffet were naturally smart. Of course, there are few exceptions to everything in this world because this is not a black&white world.

100k+ a year from working is a lot. You can invest in so many stocks with that salary.

That is no longer relevant since you posted something even more stupid in the post below:

It's true! Why waste money educating people to do something that won't improve society or help make our lives easier?

1. You haven't provided any evidence for anything yet.
2. Does that evidence take in to consideration those people you say are "naturally smart".
3. What about those who are not naturally smart but work their asses off. Do they get accepted or rejected to these mysterious majors that are impossible to get?

You don't think they waste their own money on their own choices?

Bill Gates went to a private school, and started coding tough stuff when he was in high school. Warren Buffet is an alien who can see the future. Again, this is not a black/white world my goodness. You can either work really hard to get into a tough college or just born with naturally good genetics. But, it's best to be born with naturally good genetics though since you can get into good colleges without trying as hard.

The College of Liberal Arts. Most of what they teach do not make my life easier.

Why would someone who doesn't try hard earn respect from anyone?

But, you are suppose to respect people who have better genetics (traits that are deemed desirable in today's society) than you. Those are the ones advancing our civilization.

You should have an idea along the lines of only let people with good degrees breed. That way we can weed out the undesirables.

In general I think it is a foolish major but it is tough to argue that it doesn't improve society.
